Thanksgiving Days!

Today, here in the United States of America, is the observance of "Thanksgiving Day". Always being held on the fourth Thursday in November, it marks the feast given in thanks for the harvest by Pilgrim colonists in 1621. However, for our Canadian neighbors north of us, their "Thanksgiving Day" -- a day of thanks for the harvest and other good things received -- is held the second Monday in October. Perhaps other countries also have specific days set aside as special days of thanksgiving. Though the thanksgiving focus might be centered on a variety of things, we would rightly conclude that such observances would relate to where one lived or from where their CITIZENSHIP might be. What is it for us?

In Paul's letter to the church at Philippi he noted. . .
"(20) BUT OUR CITIZENSHIP IS IN HEAVEN, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, (21) Who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself." ( Philippians 3:20-21 ESV)

Being CITIZENS of Heaven we have blessings not only of a physical nature, but also of a spiritual and eternal kind. Therefore, for us, thanksgiving should not be merely one day in November. Nor one day in October. Neither should it only be the first day of the week or other times when we assemble together with other believers. Acknowledging the great blessings that are ours, every day God provides ought to be a day of thanksgiving. With a grateful heart turned toward the Great Giver through all the days and seasons of life, may today be the beginning of a season of thanksgiving that stretches on into the eternity wherein we will live with our Lord and Savior forever!

Have a great LIFE OF THANKSGIVING TO GOD!
Carl
