Mind Over Matter!
"MIND over MATTER! If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Have we all heard that expressed?
What MATTERS? What counts most? What is held dearest? What's the predominant focus? On what does the MIND rest?
As Paul reminded the Corinthian brethren of the relationship they had shared, he acknowledged the power it had on his focus. He wrote. . .
"I am acting with great boldness toward you; I have great pride in you; I am filled with comfort. IN ALL OUR AFFLICTION, I AM OVERFLOWING WITH JOY." ( 2 Corinthians 7:4 ESV)
Isn't that a marvelous attitude? Paul had such an amazing outlook, in spite of the trials he experienced. Since I have to admit I have not been tried even close to what Paul went through, where do I get off ever feeling I have the right to sulk over disappointments or frustrations with which I might face? Even in trials Paul knew what he had to be joyful about.
James also attempted to point to the joy that aids in MIND OVER MATTER when he wrote. . .
"(2) COUNT IT ALL JOY, my brothers, WHEN YOU MEET TRIALS of various kinds, (3) for you know that the testing of your FAITH PRODUCES STEADFASTNESS." ( James 1:2-3 ESV)
Note James did not use the word "fun". Not all things that bring growth are fun. However, there can still be great joy in the growth process.
When the MATTERS of life get tough -- what should we do? Call to MIND the wonderful Christian relationships we possess and the encouragement we receive in the fellowship of the church. Call to MIND the growth made possible by the various experiences through which God brings us. And use the MIND to focus on what it is we are to learn when we are faced with any particular challenge. These are MATTERS of significance relative to this life and beyond, resulting in lasting joy!
Have a great day MINDING WHAT MATTERS!
Carl
