In The Company Of Wisdom!
We may not like being told we are wrong, but is that where we really want to remain? It is true some love the direction of their life so much -- however wrong it may be -- they are unwilling to listen to the correction they need. They are like those who "cried out with a loud voice and stopped their ears" as they rushed at Stephen prior to stoning him to death. ( Acts 7:57) Yes, so unwilling to listen and be directed back to God's Way and the blessings He desires to provide.
Solomon noted. . .
"A scoffer does not like to be reproved; he WILL NOT GO TO THE WISE." ( Proverbs 15:12 ESV)
The New Living Translation reads. . .
"Mockers don't love those who rebuke them, so THEY STAY AWAY FROM THE WISE." [©1997, Wheaton Ill., Tyndale House]
There are those who scoff at the truth and refuse to listen because they like where they are. For those who want to continue doing their own thing, the advice or counsel of any "fool" will do. What a sad condition to not want to know the truth!
This is in contrast to what Solomon stated later in this chapter.
"The ear that listens to life-giving reproof WILL DWELL AMONG THE WISE." ( Proverbs 15:31 ESV)
Are we seeking to remain in the company of the wise? The wise are those who are continually open to God's counsel, appreciate the manner in which it can redirect life, and will strive to direct others to it as well. It is true that being corrected or reproved is not comfortable, but if we WANT TO BE RIGHT should we not LOVE IT?
My wife recently stated and then posted the following on Facebook: "Until you get your life right with God, your life will not be right!" (October 4, 2009) Thank God for His Wisdom to bring us back TO THE RIGHT and thus into a proper relationship with Him. Thank God for those in our life who care enough to redirect us back to His Way. May we remain wise enough to accept the opportunity correction and reproof provides. Such will help keep us in the company of God and those who are wise enough to live life in accordance with His Will.
Have a great day OPEN TO THE TRUTH WE NEED!
Carl
