Bridging The Gap!

Where there is a gap that needs to be crossed various means are used to traverse it. When the gap is small someone may stand in it to help others cross over. Mountain climbers crossing a crevasse will use ropes or ladders to get to the other side. When the expanses are greater, bridges are built to make the connection possible. The greater the gap, the great the structure needed.

What greater gap is there than that which is between HEAVEN and EARTH? What greater contrast is there between the righteousness of HEAVEN and the fleshly inclinations of those on EARTH? Man is not able to build an expanse great enough to bridge that gap. It is a gap only God can provide the means of connecting.

In Paul's letter to the church at Ephesus we read. . .
"(7) In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, (8) which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight (9) making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth IN CHRIST (10) as a plan for the fullness of time, TO UNITE ALL THINGS IN HIM, THINGS IN HEAVEN AND THINGS ON EARTH." ( Ephesians 1:7-10 ESV)

CHRIST is the connector between HEAVEN and EARTH. He is the only means of bringing unity and He did so by means of the cross. (note also Colossians 1:20) Christ has made it possible for us to approach a completely righteous God, having been made righteous by His blood. Christ is to be acknowledged as the Sovereign over all and as we live in obedience to His Will, we are drawn into unity with one another and with the host of HEAVEN as well.

Bridges may be of many designs: floating (as we have several in the state of Washington), suspension, beam, cantilever (supported on only one end), arch, cable-stayed, and truss. However, ONLY CHRIST can bridge that span between HEAVEN and EARTH! Praise the Great Designer of the universe for His master plan for our spiritual life in Christ.
