Beyond Words!
Some things are beyond words. It has been said that a picture is worth a thousand words. How true it is that a single picture can convey in a flash what it might take pages to adequately describe. There are pictures capturing situations that can immediately leave us laughing, crying, in shock, or deeply moved in some other way. Sometimes when hiking and viewing God's beautiful creation from a high vantage point, I find it difficult to sufficiently describe it in words. We may have all had experiences that overwhelmed us to the point of leaving us speechless because of their awesomeness. Yes, beyond words!
Well, picture this. . .
"(15) If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, (16) and one of you SAYS to them, 'Go in peace, be warmed and filled,' WITHOUT GIVING them the things needed for the body, WHAT GOOD IS THAT?" ( James 2:15-16 ESV)
The context of James' statement related to faith without works being dead and his illustration provided a good picture of DECLARATION DEVOID OF ACTION. There were words of well-wishing, but nothing beyond them to take care of what was needed. And James rightly asked, "What good is that?"
John exhorted toward the proper focus for living when he stated. . .
"(18) Little children, LET US NOT LOVE IN WORD OR TALK BUT IN DEED AND IN TRUTH." ( 1 John 3:18 ESV)
Jesus didn't come to earth, say, "I love you", and then return to Heaven. He demonstrated His love by giving His life on the cross for us. ( 1 John 3:16) Is our love for God, for our Lord, or for others merely LIP SERVICE or is it truly demonstrated in a beneficial way? Words are good. They can be very encouraging. However, without action those words can be revealed to be empty and meaningless. May genuine godly love be clearly pictured in our life "in deed and in truth" as we follow through in service to others.
Have a great day PROVIDING THE RIGHT PICTURE OF LOVE!
