A Set Purpose!

Even before the foundation of a house is laid, there is a plan. There is a blueprint. There is an end product in mind. There is a purpose already designated for the structure to be built. There is nothing haphazard about it. It is not just thrown together. Every detail is planned out with regard to plumbing, wiring, and all materials inside and out. There is a designer. There is an architect. There is a builder. And there is a purpose.

The same is true with regard to God's desire for mankind. Though we might recognize stages (or eras) of God's work, it was planned from before the beginning with a constant progression toward what He ultimately has in mind.

In Paul's letter to the church at Ephesus we read. . .
"(3) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has BLESSED US IN CHRIST WITH EVERY SPIRITUAL BLESSING in the heavenly places, (4) even as he CHOSE US IN HIM BEFORE THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD, that we should be holy and blameless before him." ( Ephesians 1:3-4 ESV)

Before the foundation of the world God had a plan IN CHRIST that had us in mind. Christ and what was fulfilled by and though Him was not God's plan B, but what God had in mind all along. Unlike us, God does not need a backup plan. The coming of Christ was God's plan so that in "the fullness of time" ( Ephesians 1:10) unity would be brought between all things in heaven and on earth. This plan had our consecration, holiness, purification, redemption, and salvation in view; all being adequately taken care of IN CHRIST. Along with these present spiritual blessings we also have the assurance of obtaining an inheritance. ( Ephesians 1:11 & 14)

From "before the foundation of the world" to "the fullness of time", God has a plan He "set forth in Christ" ( Ephesians 1:9), the purpose of which will be fulfilled. May we remain IN CHRIST where we will be the recipients of "every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places."
