Properly Armed!
When facing a conflict or opposition of some kind, being suitably armed is an important consideration. We also need to give this consideration with regard to living victoriously in a world that seems to continually ignore and rebel against the Will of God.
Peter exhorted. . .
"Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, ARM YOURSELVES WITH THE SAME WAY OF THINKING, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, (2) so as to live for the rest of time in the flesh no longer for human passions but for the will of God." ( 1 Peter 4:1-2 ESV)
The Greek word translated "arm yourselves" means "to make ready" or "equip" and is said to have been used of a soldier putting on his armor ready for battle. Remember the spiritual armor Paul noted in his Ephesian letter ( Ephesians 6:13-18) that God has provided for victorious living. We are to arm ourselves with the "SAME WAY OF THINKING" that Christ exercised in carrying out the Will of God He came to fulfill.
Our mindset can make a huge difference! Our outlook can significantly impact our outcome. Recognizing the deliverance from sin provided by Christ's suffering on the cross, we are to strive to live our lives "no longer for human passions but for the will of God." If we love the Lord why would we want to continue to live in that for which He suffered on our behalf? Jesus endured for the sake of what is righteous. We also have been called to endure for the sake of righteousness. ( 1 Peter 3:13-14)
Let us continually give consideration to that on which our mind dwells. Proper THINKING and the maintaining of the right ATTITUDE is a great weapon in warding off discouragement when life around us seems overwhelming. We are bombarded by ideas and invitations to live contrary to the Will of God. However, remembering that God's Way is right and will ultimately lead to life eternal should inspire us to continue living in accordance with His Way. May we make it our resolute choice to live for the rest of our lives for the Will of God!
Have a great day FOCUSED TO FOLLOW IN FAITHFULNESS TO GOD!
