In The Head!
Headaches sometimes make it hard to focus. Sometimes headaches are brought on by pressures in life. For some headaches are the symptom of some other ailment in the body. There are also those who get headaches because of something they ate or drank. Though it may be said that "it is all in the head", when the head is aching it impacts the activity (or desire for it) of the rest of the body. When the head is sick, life is drastically impacted!
In a vision Isaiah saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem, part of the condition of the people of that time was described as follows.
"(5) Why will you still be struck down? Why will you continue to rebel? THE WHOLE HEAD IS SICK, and the whole heart faint. (6) From the sole of the foot even to the head, there is no soundness in it, but bruises and sores and raw wounds; they are not pressed out or bound up or softened with oil." ( Isaiah 1:5-6 ESV)
The Hebrew word translated "sick" is "choliy" and is said to literally mean "in a state of sickness." Their spiritual condition was one of sickness. It was the result of sin and rebellion against God. They had forsaken the Lord. (vs.4) They had chosen their own way. They had been FOLLOWING THEIR OWN THOUGHTS RATHER THAN THE WILL OF GOD. Not only did they have a heart problem (being rebellious) but were sick in the head; in their intellect. Their thinking was not in line with the mind of God.
When Jesus was faced with those who opposed Him, he quoted from Isaiah 6:10 when He stated. . .
"For this people's heart has grown dull, and with their ears they can barely hear; and their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart AND TURN, AND I WOULD HEAL THEM." ( Matthew 13:15 ESV)
As the brain and the heart are vital organs for the survival of the body, so it is in a spiritual sense. How many are in need of radical heart surgery of a spiritual kind. How many are actually spiritually "brain dead". What we love and WHAT WE THINK are of great significance with regard to our spiritual health. As verse six went on to note the condition of the rest of the body, so it is spiritually. When our affections and thinking are not well, it begins to impact the actions of our whole being. If we need healing in this spiritual sense, let us turn to the Lord that we may be healed. May we focus on God's Will so that we may have soundness of body and mind.
Have a great day SEEKING TO MAINTAIN THE MIND OF GOD!
