Cents And Sense!

There are some who think "more money" is always the solution. However, Paul pointed out how money -- more specifically the love of it -- is at the root of many problems. ( 1 Timothy 6:9-10) I recently read the accounts of several individuals who had won a great deal of money in lotteries. Though it may be astounding, these individuals soon found themselves in financial ruin. I have also read of some who consulted a financial advisor before they even claimed their winnings. However the former individuals referred to obviously did not know how to handle their new found wealth. They had more "cents" than "sense". Perhaps we wish such an opportunity would become ours. For me it would not be a chance, but nothing more than a miracle to win a lottery, because I have never bought a ticket. Still, I have thought of what I might do with such wealth.

Solomon advised. . .
"(13) Blessed is the one who finds WISDOM, and the one who gets UNDERSTANDING, (14) for THE GAIN FROM HER IS BETTER THAN GAIN FROM SILVER AND HER PROFIT BETTER THAN GOLD. (15) She is MORE PRECIOUS than jewels, and NOTHING you desire CAN COMPARE with her." ( Proverbs 3:13-15 ESV)

Having "cents" with no "sense" is not good! Before we desire the "cents" we need to seek the "sense" needed in living a life that glorifies God and truly brings lasting benefit to us. It is not really a matter of thinking what we would do with more, but what are we presently doing with what we already have! If we are not handling that well, why do we think we would really do better with more? The truly wealthy ones are those who have more "sense" than "cents". May we seek the WISDOM of God as the greater riches to possess. Then we will be prepared to be good stewards of whatever else has been placed in our hands.
