Whose Opinion?
What is of the most concern to us? As we go about our daily lives, what is the opinion that tends to carry the most weight. Now, before we make a claim too hastily, let us take an honest look at our life choices -- things we do, places we go, entertainment we like, things we laugh at, etc. -- to see what values are actually reflected.
In Paul's first letter to the church at Corinth, he noted three levels of judgment. In the fourth chapter we read. . .
"(1) This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. (2) Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found trustworthy. (3) But with me it is a very small thing that I should be JUDGED BY YOU OR BY ANY HUMAN COURT. In fact, I do not even JUDGE MYSELF. (4) For I am not aware of anything against myself, but I am not thereby acquitted. IT IS THE LORD WHO JUDGES ME." ( 1 Corinthians 4:1-4 ESV)
The levels of judgment we face in life are that of public opinion (what our peers or society at large thinks to be right), our own conscience (our own estimation of how good and right we are), and the view of our Lord. I believe we would all agree that it is what THE LORD THINKS of our lives that should matter the most, but -- again -- what values are actually reflected in our daily living? Even though we may feel the pressure of the judgments of others and would even experience some fear in facing a human court, like Paul, do we view such judgment as a "very small thing" compared to the VIEW OF OUR LORD? After all, it is His judgment that is of ETERNAL CONSEQUENCE. Though we trust His grace and the adequacy of His blood to deal with our sins, we still must give serious consideration to the manner in which we live.
Jesus Himself declared. . .
"(36) I tell you, ON THE DAY OF JUDGMENT people will give ACCOUNT FOR EVERY CARELESS WORD they speak, (37) for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned." ( Matthew 12:36-37 ESV)
We are accountable for our actions. We are responsible for the choices we make. Let us not be careless about the manner in which we live and speak. Though we may careless about what others think, let us give careful consideration to what OUR LORD THINKS about our life. Just like our own, the estimations of others can be wrong. Therefore let us live to please the One Who judges with righteous judgment and by His mercy and grace will provide the greatest blessings associated with living now and for eternity.
Have a great day ALLOWING THE LORD'S VIEW TO BE OUR LIFE INFLUENCE!
