Where's Our Focus Fixed?
A couple times recently [05/14/2009 & 05/26/2009 focus] we have noted how privileged Moses would have been to have grown up as a son of Pharaoh's daughter. ( Exodus 2:10) We also noted how he did not lose touch with his roots. He recognized who "his people" were. ( Exodus 2:11-12) Just like Moses, knowing who and Whose we are will make all the difference in how we conduct our lives.
Writing of Moses, the writer of Hebrews stated. . .
"(24) By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter, (25) choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. (26) He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for HE WAS LOOKING TO THE REWARD." ( Hebrews 11:24-26 ESV)
There was something bigger than what growing up in Pharaoh's household could offer on which Moses' focus was fixed. There was something grander and richer than whatever wealth Egypt could offer. Had Moses lost sight of that, he could have easily surrendered to living life as an Egyptian. However, that did not happen and so the Hebrew writer tells us "he was looking to THE REWARD." Not just any reward, but "THE REWARD"! What are we looking toward?
We too need to keep looking to what GOD OFFERS, not what the world keeps holding out to us. Unless we remain focused on GOD'S GIFTS and GOD'S REWARDS we can easily be led into becoming content with what this world offers. Like Paul, let us keep straining forward to what still lies ahead. ( Philippians 3:13)
Earlier in his same chapter the Hebrew writer stated. . .
"(6) And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to GOD must believe that he exists and that he REWARDS THOSE WHO SEEK HIM." ( Hebrews 11:6 ESV)
May we continue seeking God and the ultimate life Jesus came to provide. When our life here becomes all about God and what He has in mind for us, we can be assured that THE REWARD He wishes to grant in eternity is far better than the meager trophies with which the world tries to tempt us. May our focus remain fixed on seeking God and all that pleases Him.
Have a great day ENCOURAGED BY WHAT GOD HAS IN STORE FOR THOSE WHO REMAIN HIS!
