It Is What It Is!
As I was walking a few days ago, I was struck by the following thought: "Holding to truth creates conflict. Denying truth does not change it." Do we recognize that? Has it been a part of our life experience?
There are those who simply do not want to accept the TRUTH. In Paul's second letter to the church at Thessalonica he made reference to those who "REFUSED TO LOVE THE TRUTH and so be saved." ( 2 Thessalonians 2:10 ESV) For us to hold to the TRUTH and stand by the TRUTH will just naturally bring us into conflict with those who refuse to accept it.
In Paul's letter to the church at Corinth we read. . .
"For we cannot do anything against THE TRUTH, but only for THE TRUTH." ( 2 Corinthians 13:8 ESV)
The Greek phrase translated "cannot do anything" uses the Greek word "dunametha" which comes from "dunamai" meaning "power". "Dunamis" (another form of this word) is what Nobel had in mind when he named his invention "dynamite". It is a word Paul used a lot in his letters. In other words, Paul implied being powerless against the TRUTH. This does not mean the TRUTH cannot be opposed or hindered. In Paul's letter to Rome he even referred to those who suppress the TRUTH by their unrighteousness. ( Romans 1:18) There are also people who attempt to hinder others from following the TRUTH. (i.e. Galatians 5:7) However, ultimately the TRUTH is that which will prevail! We cannot stop that. It may be concealed by some and from some for a while, but TRUTH cannot be successfully wished away. Still, TRUTH should not be feared. It should instead be appreciated for the blessing it brings when acknowledged and allowed to direct the life. Even the TRUTH that hurts for a while brings relief and hope when the life is conformed to it! TRUTH stands firm like a solid and strong wall that when one continually tries to crash against it will only end up bring injury to self.
In battle, when one realizes which side is going to prevail, terms of surrender are generally sought. May we surrender our lives to the TRUTH and so find the blessed life God desires to provide. While on the road to Damascus, Paul found that he was powerless against the TRUTH. [Note his own account of that turning point in his life. ( Acts 26:14-18)] Having finally seen the light, he surrendered his life fully to Christ and changed from being an opponent to a strong proponent of the TRUTH. Since Jesus is the TRUTH ( John 14:6) may we remain on His side!
Have a great day DARING TO STAND FIRM WHERE TRUTH DOES!
Carl
