"Open My Eyes"!

Legend has it that a certain college philosophy professor asked only one question on his final exam. He picked up a chair, put it on his desk, and wrote on the board, "Using everything we have learned this semester, prove that this chair does not exist." The students dug deep and wrote like crazy for a whole hour, some of them churning out thirty pages of heady philosophical debate and logic. But one student turned in his paper after less than a minute. It turned out he was the only one to get an "A." What did he write so quickly that turned out to be just the right answer? "What chair?" [source: "Strange World," Campus Life, Vol. 53, no.6]

I appreciate the parables of Jesus. Those stories placed in every day settings, but containing spiritual implications, help me remember the points Jesus desired to get across. However, when Jesus was asked why He spoke in parables (Matthew 13:10), remember His response.

We read. . .
"(13) This is why I speak to them in parables, because SEEING THEY DO NOT SEE, and HEARING THEY DO NOT HEAR, nor do they understand. (14) Indeed, in their case the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled that says: 'You will indeed hear but never understand, and you will indeed see but never perceive. (15) For THIS PEOPLE'S HEART HAS GROWN DULL, and with their ears they can barely hear, and THEIR EYES THEY HAVE CLOSED, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and turn, and I would heal them.'" (Matthew 13:13-15 ESV)

Some, regardless of the evidence or proof, will NOT SEE what they do NOT WANT TO SEE! When a man who had been born blind was healed by Jesus, there were attempts to dismiss the miracle. (i.e. John 9:9 and 18) Then, even though the miracle could not be denied, there was still A REFUSAL TO SEE Jesus for Who He was (and is). Though they claimed to see (John 9:40-41), they were suffering the WORST BLINDNESS possible; a hardness of heart that REFUSED TO SEE the truth right in front of their eyes!

May we nurture the desire of the psalmist who prayed, "OPEN MY EYES, THAT I MAY BEHOLD WONDROUS THINGS OUT OF YOUR LAW." (Psalm 119:18 ESV) Rather than seeing only what we want to see, let us be OPEN TO SEEING all the Lord desires to reveal to us. That is vision that will bring blessings beyond that which is seen.

Have a great day SIGHTED FOR SPIRITUAL LIVING!

Discipleship!

A native of the Congo is said to have prayed, "Dear Lord, You be the needle and I be the thread. You go first, and I will follow wherever You may lead." [original source unknown]

Perhaps that is one of the best pictures of discipleship; a willingness to SURRENDER the life AND FOLLOW wherever the Lord leads. Think about the needle guiding the thread skillfully in and out of the fabric, creating the stitching that holds a garment together. It is the needle that has the ability to poke through, creating a pathway for the thread to follow. Without the needle, what could the thread do? Though our life has its ins and outs, it is the power of Jesus that can break through, bringing us through them in a way that holds our life together for the purpose of which it was created.

Jesus defined His expectation of discipleship when He stated. . .
"(26) If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot BE MY DISCIPLE. (27) Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot BE MY DISCIPLE. . . . (33) So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot BE MY DISCIPLE." (Luke 14:26-27 & 33 ESV)

Of all our relationships, JESUS MUST BE FIRST. He is to be loved more than anyone or anything else. That is really what He was trying to convey so that all relationships could be kept in proper perspective. Also, unless we are WILLING TO FOLLOW HIM and HIS WILL -- turning away from the direction of our own desires and un-attaching ourselves from our stuff (instead finding ways to use it up in His service) -- we cannot be His disciple. It is through FOLLOWING HIS LEAD that we will find our greatest blessings.

Even if we feel at times we are hanging on by a thread, let it be a thread attached to Jesus. May we trust the Lord enough to FOLLOW WHEREVER HE LEADS, knowing it ultimately leads into His eternal presence.

Have a great day FOLLOWING JESUS THROUGH ALL THE FABRIC OF LIFE!

Ready?

Moths are interesting creatures as they are DRAWN TO LIGHT. They flutter around and around light bulbs glowing in the darkness. I have seen them drawn to street lights where bats swoop past, enjoying the moths as a meal. They are even drawn into the light beams from headlights of moving vehicles. However, for what are they ready as they are DRAWN TO THE LIGHT?

Moses was DRAWN TO THE LIGHT of a burning bush? (Exodus 3:2) When God spoke to him he responded, "Here I am" (Exodus 3:4), but how ready was he to accept the calling he received. His "Here I am" was quickly followed by a "Who am I" (Exodus 3:11) and several other excuses revealing his reluctance to at first accept the mission for which God had prepared him.

Nicodemus was DRAWN TO THE LIGHT (Jesus, John 8:12), though he went to Jesus at night. (John 3:2) Despite the fact he was a "teacher of Israel" (John 3:10), Nicodemus was in need of some more enlightenment. He was at least at a point where he was willing to begin to investigate Jesus and would even soon venture to speak somewhat on Jesus' behalf. (John 7:50-51) However, it was not until after Jesus' death on the cross that Nicodemus -- along with Joseph of Arimathea -- stepped forward publicly to request the body of Jesus for burial. (John 19:38-39)

When Paul finally SAW THE LIGHT when the Lord appeared to him on the road to Damascus (Acts 9:3), he was ready to surrender and do whatever he needed to do? He was ready to move from the darkness of his ignorance and live to serve the purposes of God. And what a powerful work the Lord did through His servant Paul.

How about us? Are we continuing to be DRAWN TO THE LIGHT? How ready are we to accept Jesus as He is, stepping further from the realm of darkness into His glorious light as we surrender our will to Him? Are we ready to remain in that LIGHT?

John exhorted and encouraged. . .
"(5) This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. (6) If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. (7) But if we WALK IN THE LIGHT, AS HE IS IN THE LIGHT, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin." (1 John 1:5-7 ESV)

It is only IN THE LIGHT of God and our Lord Jesus that such blessing can be found. Many may be drawn to THE LIGHT, but there must also be the decision to remain there? May our fellowship with THE LIGHT be the mark of our every day living as we live with the hope of eventually living in the realm of His eternal glorious LIGHT. Walking in HIS LIGHT now will help us find the way.

Have a great day BLESSED BY LIVING IN THE LIGHT OF THE LORD!

The Heart Of The Matter! (part 8 of 8)

The good fruit's connected to the good tree, the good tree's connected to the good root, the good root's grounded in the good soil, and that's the way it grows. Hmmm. That's got a nice little jingle to it. It kind of reminds me of a song about connected bones.

Well, Jesus said it this way:
"(43) For no good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit, (44) for each tree is known by its own fruit. For figs are not gathered from thornbushes, nor are grapes picked from a bramble bush. (45) The good person out of the GOOD TREASURE OF HIS HEART produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for OUT OF THE ABUNDANCE OF THE HEART HIS MOUTH SPEAKS." (Luke 6:43-45 ESV)

So that's from where the words come! Could the SIGNIFICANCE OF THE HEART'S STOREHOUSE be pointed out any clearer? The statement has been made: "Problem with the mouth? Hit 'em in the mouth!" But this seems to point out the problem is in the heart.

As we READ GOD'S WORD, let Him "HIT US IN THE HEART" so that our words and all other aspects of our lives will be in harmony with Him. Then as our heart overflows it will be in speech and actions which will glorify God and benefit those around us.

Have a great day watching your OVERFLOW!

The Heart Of The Matter! (part 7 of 8)

From a heart directed lovingly and trustingly toward God should come forth the ACCOLADES OF ADORATION.

The Psalmist declared:
"(12) I give THANKS TO YOU, O LORD MY GOD, WITH MY WHOLE HEART, and I will glorify your name forever." (Psalm 86:12 ESV)

True THANKS (or PRAISE) is not just that which merely comes from the lips, but rather that which comes from the depths of our heart. The heart truly attached to God and centered affectionately on Him cannot help but PRAISE AND THANK HIM. The depth of that love will cause us to declare why we love and adore Him. The whole heart will just WELL UP IN PRAISE AND THANKSGIVING to Him.

Have a great day of HEART FILLED THANKSGIVING AND PRAISE!

The Heart Of The Matter! (part 6 of 8)

What springs from the heart? Does it have an outward look or merely one which is inward? Where is the trust? Is the trust in self? Is the trust in those things to which the heart's affections have been attached?

Solomon stated:
"(5) TRUST IN THE LORD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, and do not lean on your own understanding. (6) In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths." (Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV)

Note this trust is not a partial one. It is not a trust with only a portion of our affection. Rather, we are encouraged to give the Lord our WHOLE-HEARTED TRUST. His guidance is always good. His direction is always right. His leading is always worth following.

Have a great day marked by WHOLE-HEARTED TRUST!

The Heart Of The Matter! (part 5 of 8)

The thoughts. The memories. The ideas retained. The harborings. The experiences and messages mulled over. The points we keep pondering. The images we continue picturing. What characterizes such things? Who else would we want peering in on them?

The Psalmist prayed:
"(14) Let the words of my mouth and the MEDITATION OF MY HEART BE ACCEPTABLE in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer." (Psalm 19:14 ESV)

Is that also our prayer? Is that our desire. The things held within the heart, the thoughts cherished, the ideas continually focused on are what will be at the root of our outward life. These are the things which really define our character. May they be pleasing to the One who sees them all.

Have a great day of BEAUTIFUL MEDITATIONS!

The Heart Of The Matter! (part 4 of 8)

"Up against the wall, feet back, and spread 'em!" And the "pat down" search begins. Looking for contraband or looking for evidence is what that's all about. But what if something is on the inside -- I mean swallowed? An x-ray can reveal that? But God does not need an x-ray machine to take a look within.

The Psalmist stated:
"(23) Search me, O God, and KNOW MY HEART! Try me and know my thoughts! (24) And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!" (Psalm 139:23-24 ESV)

Do we dare pray such a prayer? Only if we truly desire to be right with God that we might always live according to His Will. However, whether we desire God to KNOW OUR HEART or not, HE DOES! It is to our advantage to be able to know what is going on within our heart so we can make the changes needed for our spiritual health. May we find comfort in God's searches, knowing He will lead us in right ways.

Have a great day with an OPEN HEART TO God!

The Heart Of The Matter! (part 3 of 8)

"Don't leave, I'll be right back," she says as she gets up from the table. "Wild horses couldn't drag me away," he responds affectionately.

No, I'm not attempting to write a romance novel, but do you get the picture? Have you heard such expressions? Think of the power of a love which DESIRES NO SEPARATION. Has our heart focused to that extent?

Solomon advised:
"(3) Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; WRITE THEM ON THE TABLET OF YOUR HEART. (4) So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man." (Proverbs 3:3-4 ESV)

It is not the things written on stone that endure. Those stones will someday crumble away. The heart is the place for that which is to be PERMANENTLY INSCRIBED. May the love and faithfulness to God be written on that tablet. God delights to read it there.

Have a great day having your TABLET READ!

The Heart Of The Matter! (part 2 of 8)

We tend to be drawn toward that to which our affections are attached. How strong or deep that love might be will determine how irresistible the draw will be on our heart.

The Psalmist addressed this drawing in these words:
"(10) WITH MY WHOLE HEART I SEEK YOU; let me not wander from your commandments! (11) I HAVE STORED UP YOUR WORD IN MY HEART, that I might not sin against you." (Psalm 119:10-11 ESV)

Do we also share that earnestness and devotion in SEEKING GOD? Does our heart continue to SEEK AFTER God and His Will? In the seeking, may we retain God's word within our heart that there be nothing which could ever be powerful enough to entice us away from Him.

Have a great day of HIDE AND SEEK connected to God!

The Heart Of The Matter! (part 1 of 8)

Sometimes we tend to not go very deep with things. How often do we merely skim the surface in our communication or dealings with others? Even regarding things in our own lives, do we find ourselves making applications of things on a surface level -- merely putting on a show or putting up a front -- rather than being genuine? When it comes to our relationship with God and a focus on His Will we need to go deep. We need to allow the things of God to penetrate deep into our lives in order to be genuinely enabled to live in accordance with the character He helps to instill within us. Therefore, we must be concerned with the HEART OF THE MATTER!

Today and over the next seven days join me in meditating on something which matters greatly: OUR HEART.

First of all, let us consider that on which our affections are most focused.

Jesus reminded of this ageless principle:
"(30) And you shall LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength." (Mark 12:30 ESV)

God must be at the core of our HEART'S FOCUS AND AFFECTION for all else to retain its proper place in our lives. This is a foundational truth for life. A GENUINE LOVE FOR GOD ABOVE ALL ELSE will make all the difference for both now and eternity.

Have a great day AFFECTIONATELY FOCUSED with a FOUNDATIONAL LOVE!

A Father's Love!

A father's love is shown in various ways. One of those displays is in the process of meeting our needs. A loving father recognizes and seeks to meet the needs and even the desires of his children. Yet there are times when that perception may not be as sharp as it could. This is not the case with our HEAVENLY FATHER, however.

Jesus stated. . .
"(9) Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? (10) Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? (11) If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, HOW MUCH MORE WILL YOUR FATHER WHO IS IN HEAVEN GIVE GOOD THINGS to those who ask him! (12) So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets." (Matthew 7:9-12 ESV)

We also understand how some ways of showing love are more desirable to us than others. Yet we must also have an appreciation for all the ways in which we benefit from that love. Even the love of our HEAVENLY FATHER (the best model for loving) may at times come across in a way we might think undesirable. Do we acknowledge the necessity of that love?

In drawing a comparison between earthly fathers and our HEAVENLY FATHER, the Hebrew writer noted. . .
"(10) For they [earthly fathers] disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he [God] disciplines us FOR OUR GOOD, that we may SHARE HIS HOLINESS. (11) For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it YIELDS THE PEACEFUL FRUIT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS to those who have been trained by it." (Hebrews 12:10-11 ESV)

Not only does our HEAVENLY FATHER love us enough to have sent the very best (Jesus), but He also loves us enough to provide the guidance we need.

Have a great day LIVING IN your HEAVENLY FATHER'S LOVE!

Father's Day!

This coming Sunday is a special day that has been set aside each year with the designation "Father's Day". This day is approached in various ways depending on the type of relationship there is with each particular father. Fathers come in all shapes and sizes. Fathers come with various temperaments and qualities. Fathers are to be loved, honored and respected. However we know that because of the choices of some fathers this may be difficult. This is why we need to keep fathers in our prayers; that they might be the kind of fathers the Heavenly Father desires them to be. I had a father who continued to be a blessing to my life, for which I thank God. I pray that is the view of my own children. If you do not have a good relationship with your father my heart goes out to you.

We have a Father, however, to whom EVERY DAY should be one in which we love, honor, and respect Him. Our Heavenly Father is perfect in His love. He has promised to not forsake us. And He should be viewed as the example for all earthly fathers.

In his letter to the church at Ephesus, Paul wrote. . .
"(2) Grace to you and peace from GOD OUR FATHER and the Lord Jesus Christ. (3) BLESSED BE THE GOD AND FATHER of our Lord Jesus Christ, who HAS BLESSED US in Christ WITH EVERY SPIRITUAL BLESSING in the heavenly places," (Ephesians 1:2-3 ESV)

Have a great EVERY DAY FATHER'S DAY!

Three Keys For Holy Living! (part 4 of 4)

Noting further Paul's exhortation to Timothy we read. . .
"(22) So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, ALONG WITH THOSE WHO CALL ON THE LORD FROM A PURE HEART." (2 Timothy 2:22 ESV)

The third key to keeping the door open to growth in holiness is maintaining fellowship with the right people; with those of kindred spirit. Though we cannot completely isolate ourselves from the world -- thus making it impossible to be the influencing salt and light we have been called to be (Matthew 5:13-16) -- we still are to be mindful of the specialness of the relationship we share with other believers. (Galatians 6:10)

To help us in continuing on the right path we must REMAIN IN COMMUNITY WITH THE SAINTS. The preceding verse in Paul's letter exhorted to separate from that which is "dishonorable" (2 Timothy 2:21 ESV), while here the urging is toward maintaining FELLOWSHIP with the Lord's people. Such helps us remain stronger and for our life to be of "honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work." (2 Timothy 2:21 ESV) Our connection with one another helps us to remain focused on the right things and walking in the right way. Also, the work we do together can yield a greater return than that which is done alone. It's A TEAM THING. We need to keep running with THE RIGHT CROWD. We must stay with the group because we need each other, being "MEMBERS ONE OF ANOTHER" (Romans 12:5 ESV) in the body of Christ. (read Romans 12:4-5 and 1 Corinthians 12:12-27)

Just as "bad company ruins good morals" (1 Corinthians 15:33), so FELLOWSHIP with others in the Lord provides godly benefit. That is why the Hebrew writer urged the importance of assembling together even though the Christians to whom he wrote were living in times of great persecution.

We read. . .
"(24) And let us consider how to STIR UP ONE ANOTHER TO LOVE AND GOOD WORKS, (25) not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but ENCOURAGING ONE ANOTHER, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near." (Hebrew 10:24-25 ESV)

We can only provide and receive that benefit by spending time together. May we recognize how key our FELLOWSHIP WITH ONE ANOTHER is, being a vital part of our FELLOWSHIP WITH THE LORD and the carrying out of His Will.

Have a great day RUNNING IN CHRIST'S CROWD!

Three Keys For Holy Living! (part 3 of 4)

Again, noting part of Paul's exhortation to Timothy we read. . .
"(22) So flee youthful passions and PURSUE RIGHTEOUSNESS, FAITH, LOVE, AND PEACE, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart." (2 Timothy 2:22 ESV)

Here is the second key to keep in hand in the effort to move us toward more holy living. Besides fleeing away from that which could entrap or lead us away from God, we must also RUN AFTER (pursue) the right things.

Recently I heard someone share the illustration of bending a pen to see how far it would bend without breaking. Sometimes we get curious about such things. However, when we find out is usually when the pen breaks and it is then too late! The damage is done! The same is true with life.

It has been long said that "curiosity killed the cat." Unfortunately that has become the fate of many people who took too close a look at what they should have stayed away from. It is dangerous to test ourselves to see how far we can bend without breaking (getting close to sin without getting burned). Instead we need to keep our eyes on the good things and RUN AFTER them. Drop the pursuits of the old life and pick up the pursuits relating to the new life in Christ: righteousness, faith, love, and peace.

We must recognize how much of the challenge begins in our minds. That is why we need to keep our eyes from straying and remain focused on the desires of God.

Paul urged. . .
"(8) Finally, brothers, whatever is TRUE, whatever is HONORABLE, whatever is JUST, whatever is PURE, whatever is LOVELY, whatever is COMMENDABLE, if there is any EXCELLENCE, if there is anything WORTHY OF PRAISE, THINK ABOUT THESE THINGS." (Philippians 4:8 ESV)

Bottom line, if our focus or particular life PURSUIT does not fall into one of those categories, we best forget it and RUN AFTER that which does! This will be the key to opening the way for more godly living. May we remain serious about developing a desire to please God. RUN AFTER holiness! That is where God will be also!

Have a great day FAITHFULLY FOLLOWING AFTER THE THINGS OF GOD!

Three Keys For Holy Living! (part 2 of 4)

Maintaining the holiness to which we have been called is a continuing challenge as we live in the midst of an unholy world. Where we rest our focus and the desires of our life is going to make a big difference in our becoming what God desires to make of us.

In his second letter to Timothy, Paul urged. . .
"(22) So FLEE YOUTHFUL PASSIONS and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart." (2 Timothy 2:22 ESV)

Today, let us meditate on the first of three keys Paul mentioned here that will contribute in moving us toward holy living. Some things must not merely be turned from or walked away from, but rather RUN FROM! It is the remaining close that often gets us into trouble. We best FLEE THE SCENE where temptation raises its ugly head. It was here that David made his mistake. He looked down from his roof, saw Bathsheba, and invited temptation in. (2 Samuel 11:2-4) Joseph, on the other hand, when presented with the challenge by Potiphar's wife, chose to FLEE as quickly as he could. (Genesis 39:6-12)

The first step in deliverance sometimes come in the form of stepping away; putting distance between us and the temptation by FLEEING as far from it as we can. It is when we remain close to the wrong things that we get ourselves into trouble. That is why Paul emphatically declared, "(33) Do not be deceived: 'BAD COMPANY RUINS GOOD MORALS.'" (1 Corinthians 15:33) The Greek word "deceived" is in the imperative here. This is an important truth not to be missed!

Remaining close to God and His Will creates greater inner strength to resist the temptations of this world. May we recognize how accepting the key of FLEEING from wherever temptation lurks will close and lock the door to its opportunity. May we continue distancing ourselves from such things by drawing closer to God and the wisdom of His Will.

Have a great day RECOGNIZING WHEN DISTANCE IS THE BEST DEFENSE!

Three Keys For Holy Living! (part 1 of 4)

Maintaining holiness is a continuing challenge. However, we must remember we have been made holy in Christ and have been called to be holy ones. (1 Corinthians 1:2) That holiness is not because we are perfect. We are each well aware of our sins and all the things we struggle with most. To deny we sin makes God a liar. (1 John 1:10) Praise God for the adequacy of Jesus' blood to take care of our sins and that because of Him God calls us holy.

Peter exhorted. . .
"(14) AS OBEDIENT CHILDREN, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, (15) but as he who called you is holy, you also BE HOLY IN ALL YOUR CONDUCT, (16) since it is written, 'You shall be holy, for I am holy.'" (1 Peter 1:14-16 ESV)

Are we seeking to please OUR HEAVENLY FATHER? "As obedient children" OUR FATHER'S CHARACTERISTICS are to be seen in our life. Jesus addressed some whose conduct revealed that though they claimed to have descended from Abraham (John 8:39) and God (John 8:41), they were actually of a father who was in direct opposition to God; namely the devil. (John 8:44) They were seeking to do his desires (John 8:44), not God's. Are we continually seeking to fulfill the desires of OUR HEAVENLY FATHER? If so, that will be reflected in striving to be holy IN ALL OUR CONDUCT. Holiness is not to be the essence of a day or during certain activities of the week. Holiness is to be the essence of our life wherever we are and whatever we are doing.

What is key to maintaining such conduct? Lord Willing, over the next three days we will note three keys from an exhortation Paul made to Timothy. May our life remain open to the process of characterizing more and more of OUR HEAVENLY FATHER'S essence.

Have a great day REVEALING WE ARE TRULY A CHILD OF GOD!

Pursuit Of A Good Day! (part 2 of 2)

The Psalmist stated. . .
"(11) Come, O children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD. (12) What man is there who DESIRES LIFE AND LOVES MANY DAYS, THAT HE MAY SEE GOOD? (13) Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit. (14) Turn away from evil and DO GOOD; SEEK PEACE AND PURSUE IT." (Psalm 34:11-14 ESV)

The things which contribute to the bringing about of good days are linked to what we have chosen to pursue. Is it the truly good which we are eagerly pursuing? Is it peace we are seeking? Or are we throwing up a wake by our course of life and finding ourselves ending up awash with stormy conflict?

As we do good we are most like Jesus Himself. The shortest commentary on His life was given by Peter when he stated "he went about doing good" (Acts 10:38 ESV). Oh, to be like Him! Yes, let it be so!

Have a great day in Pursuit of GOODNESS and PEACE!

Pursuit Of A Good Life! (part 1 of 2)

"Go for it!" Isn't that often the advice of the world? "You want it? Go get it! You deserve it! You can get it! You ought to have it." Thus, for many, goes the pursuit of happiness. But where is the happiness? Where is the joy? Where is the satisfaction? There must be some discernment and wisdom in seeing what to keep from and what to pursue.

The Psalmist stated. . .
"(11) Come, O children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD. (12) What man is there WHO DESIRES LIFE AND LOVES MANY DAYS, THAT HE MAY SEE GOOD? (13) Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit." (Psalm 34:11-13 ESV)

Do we desire life and to see good days? Then we should note what the psalmist stated from which we are to keep ourselves? The tongue used for evil and deceitful lips bring sorrow to our days! They bring misery rather than blessing! Though some seem to think these will get them ahead, the reality is they can ultimately put them behind. The good they may have found was but for a moment. They soon realize they "got it" for "going for it"!

Tomorrow (Lord willing) we will consider this pursuit further. May we be discerning and wise in all our pursuits. Life comes a day at a time, each one seeming to build upon another. Has some stability been worked into each one? Good days have a marvelous way of breeding other good ones.

Have a great GOOD DAY!

Brought Into Perspective!

A friend recently posted the following quotation on Facebook: "If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back." [Quote attributed to Regina Brett] Though there may be exceptions, generally speaking there is a lot of truth in that statement. How often have we begrudged our circumstances -- thinking we had such an unfair amount of challenges in life -- until we realized what others around us were having to deal with? We look around us and often wish we could be as carefree as others appear, but if all were known those we envy may not be as carefree as they seem. Perhaps they are just doing so well at coping with their situation we are not made aware of the struggle that is really theirs.

It is amazing how simply taking a look at the challenges others are facing can change our whole perspective on our own life. Focused on our own trials we sometimes lose sight of the good things that are still ours and the reality things could be worse. We should also be encouraged that by the grace of God we are not receiving what we really deserve. (note Psalm 103:10)

The challenges Paul faced in his ministry were great. He pressed on even in the face of some heavy challenges. His reluctant listing of some of those trials bears this out. (2 Corinthians 11:23-27) Still, we do not see him throwing himself a "pity party". Instead, Paul tried to help others retain the perspective that appears to have empowered him to press on in spite of life's challenges and even unfair treatment. Even the writer of Hebrews -- after listing the examples of many heroes and heroines of faith (Hebrews 11) reminded his readers as they focused on what the Lord endured for them (Hebrews 12:1-3) that in their struggle against sin, they had "not yet resisted to the point of shedding [their] blood." (Hebrews 12:4 ESV)

In Paul's letter to the church at Rome he declared. . .
"(18) For I consider that the SUFFERINGS OF THIS PRESENT TIME are NOT WORTH COMPARING with the glory that is to be revealed to us" (Romans 8:18 ESV)

Some of the challenges we face may be more severe than what others are enduring. However, even then, with a focus on the eternal glorious existence the Lord has in mind for us, can we view them as "light and momentary"? (2 Corinthians 4:17) They will pass while our blessed eternal life in Christ will continue. To Him be praise forever and ever. Amen!

Have a great day KEEPING LIFE IN PERSPECTIVE BY LOOKING AHEAD!

Whose Opinion?

What is of the most concern to us? As we go about our daily lives, what is the opinion that tends to carry the most weight. Now, before we make a claim too hastily, let us take an honest look at our life choices -- things we do, places we go, entertainment we like, things we laugh at, etc. -- to see what values are actually reflected.

In Paul's first letter to the church at Corinth, he noted three levels of judgment. In the fourth chapter we read. . .
"(1) This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. (2) Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found trustworthy. (3) But with me it is a very small thing that I should be JUDGED BY YOU OR BY ANY HUMAN COURT. In fact, I do not even JUDGE MYSELF. (4) For I am not aware of anything against myself, but I am not thereby acquitted. IT IS THE LORD WHO JUDGES ME." (1 Corinthians 4:1-4 ESV)

The levels of judgment we face in life are that of public opinion (what our peers or society at large thinks to be right), our own conscience (our own estimation of how good and right we are), and the view of our Lord. I believe we would all agree that it is what THE LORD THINKS of our lives that should matter the most, but -- again -- what values are actually reflected in our daily living? Even though we may feel the pressure of the judgments of others and would even experience some fear in facing a human court, like Paul, do we view such judgment as a "very small thing" compared to the VIEW OF OUR LORD? After all, it is His judgment that is of ETERNAL CONSEQUENCE. Though we trust His grace and the adequacy of His blood to deal with our sins, we still must give serious consideration to the manner in which we live.

Jesus Himself declared. . .
"(36) I tell you, ON THE DAY OF JUDGMENT people will give ACCOUNT FOR EVERY CARELESS WORD they speak, (37) for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned." (Matthew 12:36-37 ESV)

We are accountable for our actions. We are responsible for the choices we make. Let us not be careless about the manner in which we live and speak. Though we may careless about what others think, let us give careful consideration to what OUR LORD THINKS about our life. Just like our own, the estimations of others can be wrong. Therefore let us live to please the One Who judges with righteous judgment and by His mercy and grace will provide the greatest blessings associated with living now and for eternity.

Have a great day ALLOWING THE LORD'S VIEW TO BE OUR LIFE INFLUENCE!

Our Egg Basket!

It has long been the advice to not put all our eggs in one basket. If something happened to that basket, all the eggs would be lost. Eggs are fragile and must be handled with care in order for the egg seller to make a profit. The broader use of this expression has been that of not putting ALL THE HOPE AND TRUST in just one thing. Sometimes we cannot be sure what specific things might work out -- determining for certain where success in life may come -- so the endeavors of life are many with the hope of some good return for the effort. That is why investments are made in mutual funds and spread out in various stocks so that if some investments do not prove profitable, others that do will help balance out and all will not be a total loss. However, could there be a "basket" in which it is safe to place all our "eggs"?

Solomon urged. . .
"(5) TRUST IN THE LORD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, and do not lean on your own understanding. (6) IN ALL YOUR WAYS ACKNOWLEDGE HIM, and he will make straight your paths." (Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV)

Could we not perhaps rephrase the saying by stating "Don't put all your eggs in one basket, UNLESS that 'basket' is THE LORD!"? If the "basket" is God, is the investment of our life not safe? Paul was fully convinced that what he had ENTRUSTED TO THE LORD was entirely safe. (2 Timothy 1:12) Therefore, regardless of what he faced, he had complete confidence in FULLY ENTRUSTING his life to the Lord.

Since it is true that life is fragile, let us always remember to handle it with prayer; prayer to the One in Whom we can place our COMPLETE TRUST. Let it be THE LORD in which we place the trust of our WHOLE HEART and in ALL OF OUR ENDEAVORS of life acknowledge Him and His Will as we accept the guidance He offers. With Him there is no risk to the investment of our life.

Have a great day KNOWING THE LIFE GIVEN TO GOD IS FOREVER SAFE!

Where's Our Focus Fixed?

A couple times recently [05/14/2009 & 05/26/2009 focus] we have noted how privileged Moses would have been to have grown up as a son of Pharaoh's daughter. (Exodus 2:10) We also noted how he did not lose touch with his roots. He recognized who "his people" were. (Exodus 2:11-12) Just like Moses, knowing who and Whose we are will make all the difference in how we conduct our lives.

Writing of Moses, the writer of Hebrews stated. . .
"(24) By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter, (25) choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. (26) He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for HE WAS LOOKING TO THE REWARD." (Hebrews 11:24-26 ESV)

There was something bigger than what growing up in Pharaoh's household could offer on which Moses' focus was fixed. There was something grander and richer than whatever wealth Egypt could offer. Had Moses lost sight of that, he could have easily surrendered to living life as an Egyptian. However, that did not happen and so the Hebrew writer tells us "he was looking to THE REWARD." Not just any reward, but "THE REWARD"! What are we looking toward?

We too need to keep looking to what GOD OFFERS, not what the world keeps holding out to us. Unless we remain focused on GOD'S GIFTS and GOD'S REWARDS we can easily be led into becoming content with what this world offers. Like Paul, let us keep straining forward to what still lies ahead. (Philippians 3:13)

Earlier in his same chapter the Hebrew writer stated. . .
"(6) And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to GOD must believe that he exists and that he REWARDS THOSE WHO SEEK HIM." (Hebrews 11:6 ESV)

May we continue seeking God and the ultimate life Jesus came to provide. When our life here becomes all about God and what He has in mind for us, we can be assured that THE REWARD He wishes to grant in eternity is far better than the meager trophies with which the world tries to tempt us. May our focus remain fixed on seeking God and all that pleases Him.

Have a great day ENCOURAGED BY WHAT GOD HAS IN STORE FOR THOSE WHO REMAIN HIS!

I Am Loved!

Do you ever sit back and simply think about the fact YOU ARE LOVED? Loved by parents. Loved by family. Loved by children. Loved by a friend. It truly is a sad state when one thinks they are not loved by anyone. Knowing we are loved can almost make us feel we are wrapped up in a warm blanket of comfort and peace.

An elderly woman who lived alone and was not able to get out much was asked by a friend, "What do you do during the day?" She replied, "Well, I get my hymnbook and sing. Then I get my Bible and let the Lord speak to me. When I get tired of reading and cannot sing anymore, I just sit still and let the Lord love me!" [selected]

To meditate on the reality of THE LORD'S LOVE for us ought to be very encouraging and warming.

John wrote. . .
"(9) IN THIS THE LOVE OF GOD WAS MADE MANIFEST among us, THAT GOD SENT HIS ONLY SON into the world, so that we might live through him. (10) In THIS IS LOVE, not that we have loved God but that HE LOVED US AND SENT HIS SON TO BE THE PROPITIATION FOR OUR SINS. (11) Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. " (1 John 4:9-11 ESV)

"Propitiation" refers to our sins having been covered or remitted. God's love was made manifest or clearly evident in the sending of the Son to adequately deal with our sins. Yes, we are greatly loved. And the manner in which we live our lives will reveal how much we appreciate GOD'S LOVE and that of our Lord Who willingly came and gave Himself for us. Also, since we are SO LOVED by God His expectation is that we also love one another. Therefore, as we find comfort in sitting and contemplating GOD'S LOVE, may others feel the embrace of HIS LOVE through the actions of our life as well.

Have a great day BEING A PART OF THE LIVING LOVE OF GOD!

It Is What It Is!

As I was walking a few days ago, I was struck by the following thought: "Holding to truth creates conflict. Denying truth does not change it." Do we recognize that? Has it been a part of our life experience?

There are those who simply do not want to accept the TRUTH. In Paul's second letter to the church at Thessalonica he made reference to those who "REFUSED TO LOVE THE TRUTH and so be saved." (2 Thessalonians 2:10 ESV) For us to hold to the TRUTH and stand by the TRUTH will just naturally bring us into conflict with those who refuse to accept it.

In Paul's letter to the church at Corinth we read. . .
"For we cannot do anything against THE TRUTH, but only for THE TRUTH." (2 Corinthians 13:8 ESV)

The Greek phrase translated "cannot do anything" uses the Greek word "dunametha" which comes from "dunamai" meaning "power". "Dunamis" (another form of this word) is what Nobel had in mind when he named his invention "dynamite". It is a word Paul used a lot in his letters. In other words, Paul implied being powerless against the TRUTH. This does not mean the TRUTH cannot be opposed or hindered. In Paul's letter to Rome he even referred to those who suppress the TRUTH by their unrighteousness. (Romans 1:18) There are also people who attempt to hinder others from following the TRUTH. (i.e. Galatians 5:7) However, ultimately the TRUTH is that which will prevail! We cannot stop that. It may be concealed by some and from some for a while, but TRUTH cannot be successfully wished away. Still, TRUTH should not be feared. It should instead be appreciated for the blessing it brings when acknowledged and allowed to direct the life. Even the TRUTH that hurts for a while brings relief and hope when the life is conformed to it! TRUTH stands firm like a solid and strong wall that when one continually tries to crash against it will only end up bring injury to self.

In battle, when one realizes which side is going to prevail, terms of surrender are generally sought. May we surrender our lives to the TRUTH and so find the blessed life God desires to provide. While on the road to Damascus, Paul found that he was powerless against the TRUTH. [Note his own account of that turning point in his life. (Acts 26:14-18)] Having finally seen the light, he surrendered his life fully to Christ and changed from being an opponent to a strong proponent of the TRUTH. Since Jesus is the TRUTH (John 14:6) may we remain on His side!

Have a great day DARING TO STAND FIRM WHERE TRUTH DOES!

Example Of Fitness!

Sometimes when seeing people out for a jog or run, noting how fit or thin they look we might conclude they are not in need of exercise. However, the fact they are regularly out working off the calories is the reason they are in such good shape.

Though it was over seven years ago that I determined to shed about thirty pounds, I still have people ask me, "How did you lose the weight?" Though many are aware of my regular walking routine, there are still those who may actually be hoping to hear an easy solution; one that does not require strenuous exercise or perhaps even change of eating habits. When inquiring about "the secret" to my success, some do not really want to hear that I cut in half the amount of food I was eating and considerably increased my exercise level. What they would prefer to hear about is some wonder diet drug to take or a liquid solution to drink so they don't have to change their life habits. The reality however is that I made changes relative to eating and exercise I must continue to maintain to keep from going back to where I was.

It takes work. It takes effort. And the same is true with regard to our SPIRITUAL HEALTH! There is no godliness drink. There is no righteousness injection. There is no wisdom pill. It takes time. It takes effort. It takes continual focus. However, some seem to desire spirituality without changing what they feed on or the manner in which they live. They want to continue doing all the things they have done before, failing to realize that will only stifle SPIRITUAL PROGRESS. Just like with shedding pounds to benefit physical health, we can't think we can still GROW SPIRITUALLY when we have not changed what we are feasting the mind and heart on or the activities in which we engage.

In Paul's first letter to Timothy he urged him. . .
"(11) But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. PURSUE righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness." (1 Timothy 6:11 ESV)

Among those things Paul urged Timothy to pursue or go after were "righteousness" and "godliness." To be SPIRITUALY FIT we must continue this pursuit! We cannot grow STRONGER SPIRITUALLY sitting still where we are.

In Peter's second letter he exhorted those to whom he wrote. . .
"(5) For this very reason, MAKE EVERY EFFORT to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, (6) and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, (7) and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. (8) For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ." (2 Peter 1:5-8 ESV)

There is no substitute for EFFORT! The Greek word used by Peter here is "spoude" which primarily implies "haste, zeal, diligence, hence means earnest care, carefulness." [source: W.E. Vine's Expository Dict. Of N.T. Words] The New King James Version reads: "GIVING ALL DILIGENCE". As Peter began his list, the first thing he mentioned to supplement or add to faith was "virtue" which has to do with the very character or essence of our life. We must also spend more time in the Word of God in order to gain knowledge for SPIRITUAL STRENGTHENING.

A few days ago a gentleman stopped me and mentioned how seeing me walking on a regular basis had INSPIRED HIM to begin walking and he had already lost thirty pounds. He thanked me for my example. How wonderful if our SPIRITUAL HABITS AND HEALTH would do the same thing; inspire others to make changes in their lives that would lead to godly and righteous living. Just as some people may look at a very physically fit person and say, "I want to be like them", so should we live that others might see the benefits of our being SPIRITUALLY FIT. Like Paul we ought to be the example others need while at the same time elevating the focus ultimately to the example of Christ. (1 Corinthians 11:1)

Have a great day INSPIRING OTHERS TOWARD GODLINESS!

Guard The Contents!

On the mountain, God gave Moses directions for the tabernacle and all that was associated with it. Among the important furnishing was the ark of the covenant. (Exodus 25:10-22) On this was the mercy seat where the high priest would offer atonement for the nation once each year. (Hebrews 9:7) It was also noted as the place where God was met. (Exodus 25:22) The ark was also a box that held a container of manna as a remembrance (Exodus 16:33-34), Aaron's staff that had budded (Numbers 17:10), and the tablets of the covenant (Exodus 25:16). These three items are also listed in Hebrews 9:4. However, by the time of Solomon, "There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets of stone." (1 Kings 8:9) At least that was there. However, even God's commands got misplaced and lost as time went on, only to be discovered during the reign of Josiah when the temple was under repair. While the money was being brought into the house of God the book was found! (2 Kings 22:2-13 & 2 Chronicles 34:14-21) How could God's people lose track of such a thing? No wonder they kept departing from His Will!

When Jesus was faced with those who would not accept Him for Who He was, He stated the reason was. . .
"(38) and YOU DO NOT HAVE HIS WORD ABIDING IN YOU, for you do not believe the one whom he has sent. (39) You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me, (40) yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life." (John 5:38-40 ESV)

It was not words on stone in a box (no matter how ornate that box might be) that God desired for HIS WORD, but for it to be INTERNALIZED within His people so as to impact daily living. The Hebrew writer even noted this in referring to Jeremiah's prophecy that read. . .

"For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I WILL PUT MY LAWS INTO THEIR MINDS, AND WRITE THEM ON THEIR HEARTS, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people." (Hebrews 8:10 ESV) [Jeremiah 31:33]

This is the container of which the contents need to be closely guarded. No matter how good we might think we look, if we do not retain GOD'S WORD within, we might as well be an old wooden crate laying around collecting dust. It is that with which God fills us that brings the significance to our life. We need to take care that GOD'S WORD is not lost track of in our life. Has it been covered up and hidden by other "treasures" taken into our HEART AND MIND? Is there the need for some cleaning so that it can once again be found? Let us allow GOD'S WILL to be taken into OUR MINDS and written on OUR HEARTS to be kept and followed so that we will continue to acknowledge Jesus for Who He is and will live in a manner revealing He truly is the Lord of our life. May GOD'S WILL never be misplaced or replaced but closely safeguarded within.

Have a great day REMAINING A BEAUTIFUL CONTAINER OF GOD'S WORD!

Clothing Of The Day!

Sometimes the manner in which we dress influences the manner in which we act and walk. Though it may happen among small children, generally when we get dressed up we are not likely to go out and tumble on a football field or take a hike through a swamp. Those are activities for our grubby clothes. Depending on what we have chosen to PUT ON, we will act and even walk in certain ways. Therefore, what we are venturing out to be involved in usually determines the way we will dress. The difference may also be determined by whether it is day or night. However, when we consider the manner in which we live our life as a Christian, do we maintain the focus on what is fitting for the clothing of the day?

In Paul's letter to the church at Rome, he urged. . .
"(12) The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and PUT ON THE ARMOR OF LIGHT. (13) Let us WALK PROPERLY AS IN THE DAYTIME, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy. (14) But PUT ON THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires." (Romans 13:12-14 ESV)

Do we remain dressed for righteous living? As we approach each day, do we PUT ON the clothing of darkness or that of the light? Day or night we live in full view of God. Day or night there ought to be consistency in the choices we make. Dressed in Jesus means we ought to live in accordance with His desires. May Christ therefore be the clothing for every day!

Have a great day WEARING THE LORD FOR ALL OCCASIONS!

Beyond Understanding!

Life is full of surprises. We receive blessings from unexpected places. Things work out in UNEXPLAINABLE ways. Perhaps we marvel at what we consider coincidences. However, could they not be the provision of God? Are we ever like the one who while slipping off a roof cried out, "Help me God," only to then quickly declare, "Never mind God. I'm caught on a nail."? Is God our last resort when facing challenges and then the last to be considered in thanksgiving when things "just happen" to work out? Someone has said, "Trust God for the unexpected, and let Him surprise you by doing the unexplainable." [source: bulletin clipping]

The UNEXPECTED and UNEXPLAINABLE. Are those not two glorious words to be associated with God? We have enough of a challenge figuring our own selves out to ever think we have God all figured out. All He does is good and righteous. We also know we do not deserve His blessings. Therefore we should be all the more grateful for them.

In Paul's letter to the church at Rome, he stated. . .
"(33) Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How UNSEARCHABLE are his judgments and how INSCRUTABLE his ways! (34) 'For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?' (35) 'Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?'(36) For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen." (Romans 11:33-36 ESV)

The Greek word translated "inscrutable" is "anexichniastos" ("a", is negative, with "ex" for "ek" which means "out", and "ichnos" which means "a track"). According to Vine's Expository Dictionary of N.T. Words it signifies "that cannot be traced out". God's ways are beyond tracing or completely figuring out. There is so much WE CANNOT EXPLAIN. That is just how great His wisdom and works are. However, we don't have to understand to ACCEPT AND BE THANKFUL to God for all He has done, is doing, and will do on our behalf. That is why He is deserving of all the glory both now and forever. Amen? Amen! Though we ought to be greatly encouraged by what we know of God, may we not worry about figuring Him out, but rather simply follow on in the way He leads.

Have a great day FOLLOWING THE ONE WHO TRULY DOES KNOW IT ALL!

Present Investment!

[06/01/2009 "teEn-MAIL"]

PRESENT INVESTMENT!

Some people work to pay off the past. They have used credit to buy things already used up or pay for activities already enjoyed. The thrill is gone, but the payments continue. They live by the principle, "Play now. Pay later." and some will pay dearly for the play in which they have invested. So many invest in the present without any serious consideration toward things of eternal significance. Someone has said, "The great use of a life is to spend it for something that outlasts it." (Williams James)

To some who needed to turn their mind from the physical to the spiritual, Jesus urged. . .
"(26) Jesus answered them, 'Truly, truly, I say to you, you are seeking me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. (27) Do not LABOR for the food that perishes, but FOR THE FOOD THAT ENDURES TO ETERNAL LIFE, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal.'" (John 6:26-27 ESV)

Our life pursuits are not to be simply for the joy of the moment, nor even for simply the survival of the present, but with consideration of that which is to come. All the hard work done in this life can be for nothing if no thought was given to our eternal life.

Consider the investment Jesus made on our behalf. He gave His all. He surrendered His life on the cross so that through Him we can be saved. He sacrificed His life to provide us with an eternal future. As Paul recognized that investment of Christ in his own life, he was compelled to "spend and be spent" on behalf of the souls of others. (2 Corinthians 12:15) Even today we are touched by the work of the Apostle Paul as we are inspired toward the same kind of godly living. Certainly his influence has LONG OUTLASTED HIS LIFE lived in service for Jesus.

In Revelation we are encouraged. . .
"(13) And I heard a voice from heaven saying, 'Write this: BLESSED ARE THE DEAD WHO DIE IN THE LORD from now on.' 'Blessed indeed,' says the Spirit, 'that they may rest from their labors, FOR THEIR DEEDS FOLLOW THEM!'" (Revelation 14:13 ESV)

Life spent for something that outlasts us! What a noble goal! The manner in which we live and the various ways in which we can touch the lives of others can be AN INFLUENCE THAT LASTS LONG AFTER our own journey here on earth is through.

As you make your summer plans -- or if you are graduating from high school and are laying out the plans for your future education and course of career -- do not leave God and His Will and work out of the picture. May we all focus on the kind of legacy trailing behind us. Jesus has provided the opportunity to be devoted to LIVING THAT LASTS BEYOND A LIFETIME. Let us accept this greatest use of the life we have been given with the hope others will be drawn toward investing in it as well. Living the rest of our life for Him (1 Peter 4:2) and His purposes we can look forward to the eternal rest He has planned to provide. Praise God for such an eternal reason for living today!

Have a great day LIVING LIFE WITH AN ETERNAL PURPOSE!
