Who's Walking Who?
People talk about going and taking their dog for a walk. However, is that what always takes place? To watch the walking we might conclude the dog is actually walking them. Though on a leash, it is often the dog that seems to be determining the speed and the direction of travel as varying scents catch their attention.
Turning that around a little -- and what I mean is moving from a focus on a "dog" to read the letters backwards and instead focus on "GOD" -- what does the walking in our life reveal? WHO IS WALKING WHO? Some seem to want to put God on a leash and take Him for a walk in the sense of desiring God to place His stamp of approval on the manner in which they have chosen to walk, pulling Him the direction they want to go. In all actuality we need to ALLOW GOD TO LEAD us on life's walk. There are times with the "leash" in His hands that we may rightly need for Him to rein us back in or hold us back from moving toward that from which we should stay far away. Have we begun to realize more fully how much greater our life is blessed when we are willing to completely SURRENDER TO GOD'S GUIDANCE?
Let us remember the words spoken through the prophet Micah that we would still do well to heed today. We read. . .
"He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, AND TO WALK HUMBLY WITH YOUR GOD?" ( Micah 6:8 ESV)
HUMBLY WALKING WITH OUR GOD! That is what needs to mark our walking in life. Allowing Him to decide on the direction, letting Him be the one to determine the pace, having Him regain our attention when we become distracted by the "scents" of this world and begin to wander -- that's what will bring us the greatest blessing. Though it might at times appear the world is going to the "dogs" may we continue to humbly accept the opportunity to daily WALK WITH GOD as He so directs.
Have a great day WALKING WITH GOD TAKING THE LEAD!
Carl
