Beyond Admission!
It has been said that "CONFESSION is good for the soul." Acknowledging something and getting it off our chest can provide some relief. To know we don't have to worry about being found out -- because we have disclosed it ourselves -- can take a huge weight off of us. Some place a lot of attention on CONFESSION. Humbly and honestly admitting wrong in our life is a good thing. However, CONFESSION alone can still leave us far short of where we need to be. CONFESSION may be a good beginning point, but it is not the end of the matter. What is it that needs to follow?
Solomon stated. . .
"Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who CONFESSES AND FORSAKES THEM will obtain mercy." ( Proverbs 28:13 ESV)
There is the need for FORSAKING -- turning away, repenting, completely renouncing -- ours sins and transgressions against God's Will. Accompanying the "admission" there needs to cease the "commission" of that which is wrong. Along with the acknowledgment there needs to be a willingness to ABANDON the ways contrary to the Will of God. May we always remember how these two -- CONFESSION AND FORSAKING -- go together as we maintain a PENITENT spirit that keeps us turning and walking toward God. With His help we can go the distance needed.
Have a great day ACKNOWLEDGING CHANGE NEEDED AND FOLLOWING THROUGH WITH IT!
