Paternity Test!
Claims may be made, but what is the true essence revealed in the manner of living? Though some lay claim to a glorious ancestry, what does their life truly say regarding their SPIRITUAL DNA? Sometimes when there is an inheritance to be given, unknown relatives may come out of the woodwork seeking to make it theirs. Who has the right? The ones who truly are related.
As Jesus talked with some who laid proud claim to being the offspring of Abraham ( John 8:33), He pointed to a character very much unlike that of Abraham. After these opposing Jesus stated, "Abraham is our father" ( John 8:39), they went on to further declare, "We have one Father -- even God." ( John 8:41) However, with regard to both claims Jesus asserted what was exhibited in their life was contrary to the character of both Abraham and God. Right then and there Jesus declared the "paternity test" results and acknowledged their true SPIRITUAL DNA.
We read. . .
"(44) YOU ARE OF YOUR FATHER THE DEVIL, and YOUR WILL IS TO DO YOUR FATHER'S DESIRES. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies." ( John 8:44 ESV)
Though they made a verbal claim, their SPIRITUAL DNA aligned them with a different father. Is our life revealing we are truly the offspring of God? Are we of those who accept and believe in the One the Heavenly Father sent?
When John was introducing the Messiah in his Gospel, he noted . . .
"(11) He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. (12) But to ALL WHO DID RECEIVE HIM, who BELIEVED in his name, HE GAVE THE RIGHT TO BECOME CHILDREN OF GOD, (13) who were BORN, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but OF GOD." ( John 1:11-13 ESV)
Our Heavenly Father has provided the means for us to be "born again to a living hope" enabling us to receive an imperishable inheritance being kept for us in heaven. ( 1 Peter 1:3-4) May the manner in which we live our daily life reveal a character that rightly attests to our SPIRITUAL DNA being traceable to God.
Have a great day TRULY BEING OUR HEAVENLY FATHER'S CHILD!
