Opportunities!
Many talk about things they would do "if they could", but how much do they really deep down inside WANT TO do them? Perhaps the excuse sometimes used is that the opportunity just has not yet come along. However, could it be that -- like horses with blinders on -- they have simply walked past many of those opportunities, having failed to see them? Must all opportunities be waited for, or can they not also be actively sought out? I know of individuals with developmental disabilities who DESIRE TO work, but many of those jobs don't just come along by themselves. They have others helping them search out and even carve out those opportunities to work.
Someone has said, "If you want to sing, you will find a song." [source unknown] Perhaps there is a very broad application for this thought. Let us think about it in relation to what we may have stated in relation to our own DESIRES. If WE WANT to do most anything bad enough, an opportunity and way to fulfill that DESIRE will most often be found. One who WANTS to serve will find opportunities to serve others. Those who WANT to share what they have will find opportunities to give. My experience in interaction with others is that they generally do what they MOST WANT to do!
When Paul was encouraging the Christians at Corinth to follow through on helping needy saints in Judea, he wrote. . .
"(10) And in this matter I give my judgment: this benefits you, who a year ago started not only to do this work but also to DESIRE TO DO IT. (11) So now finish doing it as well, so that your readiness in DESIRING IT may be MATCHED BY your COMPLETING IT out of what you have." ( 2 Corinthians 8:10-11 ESV)
If our DESIRE is going to "be matched by" completing something, that DESIRE must be sincere. Even the power of the purposeful DESIRE of those in building the tower of Babel was acknowledged as only the beginning of what they would do, even though it was contrary to God's Will. ( Genesis 11:6) Where there's a will -- and especially when it is within the Will of God -- there will be a way!
Writing to the church at Galatia, Paul urged. . .
"(9) And let us NOT GROW WEARY of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do NOT GIVE UP. (10) So then, AS WE HAVE OPPORTUNITY, let us DO GOOD TO EVERYONE, and especially to those who are of the household of faith." ( Galatians 6:9-10 ESV)
Let us WILLINGLY ACCEPT the opportunities God provides to be of service to others as they come along. However, may we also be willing to rise up and seek out such opportunities as well. With a song of loving service in our heart, we cannot help but "sing" out the action in our daily life. How much do we really WANT TO sing?
Have a great day REMAINING IN TUNE FOR SERVICE TO THE GLORY OF GOD!
