Friends!
Friends! Isn't it wonderful to have friends? Can we have too many of them? However, are not some friends more special than others? Friends are those we like to see or hear from on a regular basis. Friends are individuals with whom we like to do things. A friend is also a wonderful thing TO BE. Friendships that are only one-sided usually do not last very long!
We sing a song about "What A Friend We Have In Jesus." [words by Joseph Scriven, 1855] I hope we believe it. I also hope we have grown to appreciate that relationship. Would we not consider Jesus to be a Very Special Friend? However, what does it truly mean to BE A FRIEND of Jesus?
Jesus told His disciples. . .
"You are MY FRIENDS IF you do what I command you." ( John 15:14 ESV)
It is not enough to simply say we're a friend. Friendship is more than a label to wear. The friendship needs to be shown in some way. James made this clear when noting the life of Abraham.
We read. . .
"(22) You see that FAITH WAS ACTIVE ALONG WITH HIS WORKS, and faith was completed by his works; (23) and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, 'Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness' -- and HE WAS CALLED A FRIEND OF GOD." ( James 2:22-23 ESV)
There in the life of Abraham we find true friendship revealed through faith and actions working together. We want to hold on to our friendship with the Father and the Son, but how well are we doing at SHOWING OUR FRIENDSHIP in return? Let us live in such a manner that we can be seen as true friends of God. True friendship is lived!
Have a great day SHOWING WHAT TRUE FRIENDSHIP IS ALL ABOUT!
