Remember And Reach!
At times when we might feel we have reached the end of our rope, sometimes what we need to do is simply hold on a little tighter while we take some time to remember Who is still ultimately in control. I was struck by this thought as I was reading through the end of the book of Psalms this past week.
In one of the Psalms of David we read. . .
“(5) I REMEMBER the days of old; I meditate on all that you have done; I ponder the work of your hands. (6) I STRETCH OUT MY HANDS TO YOU; my soul thirsts for you like a parched land.” ( Psalm 143:5-6 ESV)
Prior to these two verses, David had referred to his earnestness of prayer with a focus on the fearful impact his enemy was having on him. In the following verses that focus continued. However, by the time we get to the end of the psalm we again glimpse David’s trusting faith in God. What I like about these two verses placed in the midst of the confession of struggle is that David allowed his mind to be drawn into REFLECTING BACK on the works of God and that focus ultimately moved David into REACHING TOWARD Him.
David’s remembrance was accompanied by references to a meditation on and a pondering of the work of God. It was not just a passing thought, but is described as a dwelling upon what God had done. Sometimes in the midst of life’s challenges, what we need to do is stop and spend some time REFLECTING BACK on what God has done through the ages and in our own life as well. When we, like David, take time to remember, we too can be compelled to continue REACHING TOWARD God with an inner thirsting that arises from recognizing true satisfaction and victory are only in our connection with Him. For David, that deep remembrance welled up as a thirsting from deep within his soul; a thirsting which maintained his longing toward God. May the remembering and reaching continue in our own life as we keep a steadfast faith in God to ultimately deliver us from the challenges of this realm.
Have a great day REMEMBERING THE HANDS TO KEEP REACHING TOWARD!
