Hopes!

We presently have four grandsons and two more grandchildren on the way, one of which (a granddaughter) could be here before the end of the month. When children are born into this world, the proud parents (and grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.) may be eager to notice what characteristics have been handed down to the next generation. They may also focus on the hopes they have for what that child might become. Some of those hopes might be fully realized while the choices of the child could take them in a different direction. At some point, children themselves begin to develop their own aspirations and hopes for life and they may still live a good productive life without all those hopes materializing.

Peter encouraged those to whom he wrote. . .
“(3) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be BORN AGAIN TO A LIVING HOPE through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, (4) TO AN INHERITANCE THAT IS IMPERISHABLE, UNDEFILED, AND UNFADING, kept in heaven for you, (5) who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.” ( 1 Peter 1:3-5 ESV)

These to whom Peter wrote were going through some very challenging times. Some of the persecution they faced was severe. They may have had many hopes for this life that were not going to be gained and had probably lost some of their possessions that were considered an inheritance either for themselves or the next generation. However, because they had been BORN AGAIN ( John 3:3-5), connected with that NEW BIRTH was a “LIVING HOPE”, as well as a SECURE INHERITANCE.

That same “LIVING HOPE” is for us today, as well as the eternal INHERITANCE associated with it. The resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead is the assurance of this because, like Him, death is not the end, but rather the open door into a glorious INHERITANCE that is eternal, pure, and will never lose its luster! May we be encouraged by the HOPE that will not disappoint us!
