A Sweet Embrace! (part 2 of 3)

Relationships that truly complement each other. How sweet! How beautiful! Yesterday we noted “steadfast love” and faithfulness” as being a match made in Heaven. Let us read the text again with a further focus on verse ten.

“(10) Steadfast love and faithfulness meet; RIGHTEOUSNESS and PEACE kiss each other. (11) Faithfulness springs up from the ground, and righteousness looks down from the sky. (12) Yes, the Lord will give what is good, and our land will yield its increase. (13) Righteousness will go before him and make his footsteps a way.” ( Psalm 85:10-13 ESV)

After noting one relationship, this psalm went on to point out the sweet embrace of RIGHTEOUSNESS and PEACE! These are even personified as kissing each other, indicative of a very tender relationship.

The sweet and tender relationship of these two is that RIGHTEOUSNESS leads to PEACE. Those who do not accept the RIGHTEOUSNESS of God cannot find PEACE. They will only find themselves opposing God and thus inviting His wrath. However, even with unrest in the world around us, a RIGHT relationship with God can still bring PEACE to our life. RIGHTEOUS living also brings PEACE to the conscience because such living wards off the regret we would otherwise be plagued with for wrong being done.

Living in the RIGHTEOUSNESS of God leads us to experience the embrace of a PEACE that surpasses understanding. ( Philippians 4:7) As we strive to live in His RIGHTEOUSNESS, may we continually feel the comforting and warm embrace of His PEACE encompassing our life.
