Viewing The Scales!
A little girl, taking a playmate on a tour of her home, came to the bathroom where she pointed out the bathroom scales. “I’m not really sure what it is,” the little girl began to explain. “All I know is that you stand on it and it makes you angry.”
Now, I have also seen people step on the scales and smile with elation. It appears to depend on how one feels ABOUT THE TRUTH THE SCALES REVEAL.
This brings to mind the way some people approach THE TRUTH OF SCRIPTURE. For some there is anger because of things they either do not want to accept or just don’t want to change in their lives. For others there is rejoicing over being able to see what needs to change and the encouragement of God’s promises that make conforming to His way worth while. God did not give us His instructions to keep us from enjoying life, but rather to help us find -- through proper living -- the truest joy possible in life. His Word has our highest good always in mind!
This is why Paul wrote:
“(16) All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for TEACHING, for REPROOF, for CORRECTION, and for TRAINING IN RIGHTEOUSNESS, (17) that the man of God may BE COMPETENT, EQUIPPED for every good work.” ( 2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV)
Is our view of God’s word analogous to our view of standing on the bathroom scales and looking at what they reveal? May we REJOICE IN THE TRUTH OF GOD’S WORD, for therein we glimpse His loving wisdom that leads us in His Way and ultimately to His eternal presence.
Have a great day STANDING ON HIS WORD!
Carl
