I Agree!

There can be a sense of PEACE when we are in agreement with others. Disagreements create stress and unrest not only for those specifically involved, but also for those who may witness the conflict. However, when one is in agreement with righteousness, there can still be a sense of PEACE even though some may oppose the stand.

Job’s friends disagreed with him on many fronts. They continued to point toward great sinfulness in his life as being the cause of his suffering. However, Job continued to hold on to his integrity before God. Though Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar continued to make assumptions that were not quite accurate, there were still some statements made that were correct. Note an example from the discourse of Eliphaz where we read. . .

“(21) AGREE WITH GOD, AND BE AT PEACE; thereby good will come to you. (22) Receive instruction from his mouth, and lay up his words in your heart.” ( Job 22:21-22 ESV)

The New Living Translation reads. . . “(21) Stop quarreling with God! IF YOU AGREE WITH HIM, YOU WILL HAVE PEACE AT LAST, and things will go well for you.” [NLT, © 1997]

Living life in agreement with mankind may mean the compromising or shifting of values. However, to be in agreement with God should leave us very much AT PEACE since all His ways are right and there is nothing false in Him. We can be AT PEACE because in agreeing with God we know we can’t go wrong. One commentator points to the literal meaning of agreement here as becoming a companion of God. This would be to be on His side. Can there be any source of PEACE greater than knowing we are standing right with God? May that always be our aim.

Have a great day EXPERIENCING THE SERENITY OF SIDING WITH GOD!
