God's Awareness! (part 2 of 2)

Living under the “EYES OF THE LORD” ought to be a sobering thought ( Hebrews 4:13), but it should also be a source of great encouragement to us. As we noted yesterday, Israel was made aware that the “EYES OF THE LORD” would always be upon the land of which He was giving them. ( Deuteronomy 11:12) After Solomon built the temple he was encouraged that this place where God had placed His Name was where HIS EYES AND HEART would be! ( 1 Kings 9:3) What wonderful encouragement to draw the nation of Israel toward a continued faithful relationship with Him. Was such a blessing only for Israel? Does God hold out such a blessing for us as well?

Jesus cautioned and then encouraged. . .
“(4) I tell you, my friends, do not fear those who kill the body, and after that have nothing more that they can do. (5) But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has authority to cast into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him! (6) Are not FIVE SPARROWS SOLD FOR TWO PENNIES? AND NOT ONE OF THEM IS FORGOTTEN BEFORE GOD. (7) Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. FEAR NOT; YOU ARE OF MORE VALUE THAN MANY SPARROWS.” ( Luke 12:4-7 ESV) [also Matthew 10:28-31]

The One Who has power over our eternal destiny is to have our reverential fear! However, let us also be encouraged by His mindfulness. He Who is aware of what we might think an insignificant sparrow, is fully aware of us whom He considers of more value than many sparrows.

Consider the encouraging refrain of the hymn “His Eye Is On The Sparrow” [words by Civilla D. Martin (1905) and music by Charles H. Gabriel]: “I sing because I’m happy, I sing because I’m free, For His eye is on the sparrow, And I know He watches me.” Let us be encouraged by the “EYES OF THE LORD”, realizing everything going on in our life is of great significance to Him. May we rejoice living under His LOVING AND WATCHFUL EYES and respond appreciatively in all areas of our life!
