"Easy Come . . . !'

Have you ever heard the following expression? “EASY COME! EASY GO!”

I wonder if that is what Solomon had in mind when he wrote. . .
“(4) Do not toil to acquire wealth; be discerning enough to desist. (5) When your eyes light on it, it is gone, for suddenly it SPROUTS WINGS, FLYING LIKE AN EAGLE TOWARD HEAVEN.” ( Proverbs 23:4-5 ESV)

That is so true about a lot of things in life -- especially money. Sometimes it is hard to save because there are so many things we either want or need. It is good to learn budgeting skills sooner rather than later. However, this also should help us think about what things REALLY HAVE VALUE and what things are TRULY WORTH holding on to. There are some things we need to realize are not worth chasing after, thus the need to exercise wisdom when setting goals.

After Jesus had fed the five thousand with the loaves and fishes, there were people who came to Him again apparently because he had given them food before. Therefore Jesus -- being fully aware of what goes on within the mind of individuals -- attempted to lift the focus toward the pursuit of that which lasts or endures.

Note Jesus’ words.
“(26) Jesus answered them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, you are seeking me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. (27) Do not labor for the food that perishes, BUT FOR THE FOOD THAT ENDURES TO ETERNAL LIFE, WHICH THE SON OF MAN WILL GIVE TO YOU. For on him God the Father has set his seal.’ (28) Then they said to him, ‘What must we do, to be doing the works of God?’ (29) Jesus answered them, ‘This is the work of God, that you BELIEVE IN HIM WHOM HE HAS SENT.’” John 6:26-29 ESV)

Jesus then went on to point to Himself as the “BREAD OF LIFE.” ( John 6:35) We need to eat, but there are needs greater than those that relate merely to physical life. What marks the main focus of our life pursuit? May Jesus be our pursuit for the eternal nourishment of our souls. With Him it will not be “easy come, easy go” because Jesus and our life with Him is FOREVER! Though worldly wealth may sprout wings and fly away in this realm, through our relationship with Christ we can look forward to the day we will FLY AWAY WITH HIM!

Have a great day PURSUING THAT WHICH IS OF TRUE LASTING VALUE!
Carl
