Used In Relationships! (part 1 of 2)
What is the relationship between COMFORT and pain? Perhaps one might say when in pain it is nice to have some COMFORT from another. Perhaps another COMFORT in the midst of pain would come from knowing when the pain will only be experienced for a while. However, another relationship between COMFORT and pain is just that -- relationships. Even relationships with those we love deeply can be the source of both COMFORT and pain. In fact, the pain is often due to the genuineness of that relationship. Today, let us consider the COMFORT side and (Lord Willing) we will consider the painful side tomorrow.
In Paul’s second letter to the church at Corinth he noted the COMFORT when he wrote…
“(3) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, (4) who comforts us in all our affliction, SO THAT WE MAY BE ABLE TO COMFORT THOSE WHO ARE IN ANY AFFLICTION, WITH THE COMFORT WITH WHICH WE OURSELVES ARE COMFORTED BY GOD.” ( 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 ESV)
Now, nobody likes to be in a relationship where they feel they are only being used? Healthy relationships are generally those that provide some mutual benefit. However, in our relationships there are things for which God wants to use us in helping to carry out His Will. Extending and being a COMFORT to others is one of those tasks. Having received COMFORT, and understanding what it is to be COMFORTED, we are to be mindful of being COMFORTERS ourselves. This godly use of our life can occur in a variety of ways and in a multitude of diverse situations. When it does, it reveals the kind of connection we have allowed our life to make with the lives of others. May the “God of all COMFORT” find us useful to His purposes in being His embrace for others in their time of need.
Have a great day BEING A SOOTHING SOUL TO SOMEONE IN NEED!
