Maximum Benefit!
What does God’s Word do for us? As we read it, what impact is it having on our life? For one thing we should be gaining insight into the Mind and Will of God. We also ought to be receiving direction for the activity of our life as we note things we should not do and those things we should. However, every time we read through the pages of Scripture, we ought to also be allowing God’s message to instill greater FAITH in us so that we will BELIEVE what ought to be accepted. If not, we could either be led astray by other ideas or will not be duly impacted or have our reasoning capabilities empowered by what we are reading. That is the case with those who can read the Scriptures and walk away without having benefited from them. Such was the challenge for some who listened to Jesus teach as He walked upon this earth.
John recorded. . .
“(37) And the Father who sent me has himself borne witness about me. His voice you have never heard, his form you have never seen, (38) and YOU DO NOT HAVE HIS WORD ABIDING IN YOU, FOR YOU DO NOT BELIEVE the one whom he has sent. (39) YOU SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES BECAUSE YOU THINK THAT IN THEM YOU HAVE ETERNAL LIFE; and it is they that bear witness about me, (40) YET YOU REFUSE TO COME TO ME THAT YOU MAY HAVE LIFE.” ( John 5:37-40 ESV)
Here were some who thought they knew the Word of God, but in fact did not truly know the God Who gave it! They could have told the number of letters in the text, but were missing the spiritual truths contained within the message! Thus they set themselves up for not BELIEVING the WORD that came in the flesh. ( John 1:14) Because they did not have God’s Word abiding in them, Jesus went on to point out they also did “not have the love of God within” them. ( John 5:42)
Let us not be like these who could not see “the truth” ( John 14:6) that was standing right in front of them. More than in our hands, God’s Word needs to abide within us to not only give proper direction to our daily life, but also to help us BELIEVE what is to be rightfully acknowledged! Let us not just read to read, but read to BELIEVE, allowing God’s message to continue to “wow” us! As we seek to retain the truth of God’s Word alive within us, may our living clearly reveal we do BELIEVE!
Have a great day EXPERIENCING THE SEEING THAT COMES BY BELIEVING!
