Wealthy Ones!
Sometimes people think they are wealthy when in reality they are not; at least in what counts most. We read of some who fell into this category in Revelation 3:17-18. However, there are also those who may appear poor who in reality hold a possession of inestimable value; INTEGRITY of character. The rich of this world may set INTEGRITY aside in order to gain more position and wealth. The poor, on the other hand, may be tempted to be dishonest to gain a little more, but reveal the genuineness of their character by holding onto this priceless possession instead.
Perhaps Solomon had those of true wealth in mind when he wrote…
“BETTER IS A POOR PERSON WHO WALKS IN HIS INTEGRITY than one who is crooked in speech and is a fool.” ( Proverbs 19:1 ESV)
We find a similar statement later on where we read…
“BETTER IS A POOR MAN WHO WALKS IN HIS INTEGRITY than a rich man who is crooked in his ways.” ( Proverbs 28:6 ESV)
Though the ones Solomon referred to may not have possessed much in the way of money or worldly goods, the INTEGRITY they possessed was of great value. There are many things we may feel we are lacking, but if this possession is not ours we are truly among the poorest of the poor. To be destitute of INTEGRITY can impact not only the physical life, but also to the depth of the soul with eternal consequences.
INTEGRITY of character! To have this possession is true riches indeed. Wealth and other possessions can be lost and one can still survive. However, when INTEGRITY is lost the destruction of reputation may never be regained in a lifetime as well as lead to the loss of the soul. The dividends we receive depend on what focuses and priorities we have most invested in for our life. Let us therefore never underestimate the value of INTEGRITY, always recognizing the stock that should be placed in it. May such character be guarded more than any other possession that might be ours.
Have a great day LIVING UPRIGHTLY RICH!
