Another Day!
I knew when we began this year it was going to be a long one. Perhaps such a statement makes you wonder about my outlook on this year of which we are finishing only the second month. Actually, all it took was a look at the calendar to clue me in to the fact this was going to be a long year wherein we get 366 days rather than the usual 365. That’s a whole extra day! Why are we so blessed? Because this is a leap year; a year consisting of an extra day -- February 29 -- to make up the difference between the 365 day calendar and the actual duration of the Earth’s orbiting of the Sun. Every four years -- except for years ending in 00 that are not divisible by 400 -- we get this special day added. How wonderful!
The attempts of past eras in adjusting the calendar to match the time of the earth’s orbiting the sun and the seasonal periods together, only reflects mankind’s difficulty with time. How often have we wished for an extra day? With so much to do, who wouldn’t appreciate some extra time now and then. Since today is an extra day compared to other years, how are we going to use it? How should we view and use every day? Do we seek to glorify God with every day He provides?
The Hebrew writer urged…
“(12) Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. (13) But EXHORT ONE ANOTHER EVERY DAY, AS LONG AS IT IS CALLED ‘TODAY,’ that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. (14) For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end.” ( Hebrews 3:12-14 ESV)
For some their philosophy of life is: “Another day, another dollar.” Should it not rather be: “Another day, another opportunity to glorify God and encourage others to draw near to Him.”? Every day is an extra gift from God Who supplies life a day at a time. Each day ought to be approached from the standpoint that “…If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that” ( James 4:15 ESV) because when it comes to time we can only use it as God brings it.
Have a great day APPRECIATING EACH EXTRA DAY GOD ADDS TO LIFE!
