He Don't Make Junk!

If Henry Ford were alive today, he would probably be thrilled to see some of his shiny model T’s still motoring around. To know what he invented and built was being well cared for and kept in good working condition would perhaps provide him with a sense of pride. On the other hand, how might he feel to see rusted out frames and bumpers laying out in farm fields or heaped up in junk yards? Though we realize vehicles do wear out, some of what gets junked is either because it was not properly used or there was not enough interest to take care of it.

A number of years ago I remember seeing shirts and posters with the words “God Don’t Make Junk!” Though the grammar may not be correct, the statement most definitely is! God doesn’t make junk! Everything He has made and wants to provide for us is good. (Gen. 1:4, 10, 12, 18, 21, 25; James 1:17) It is quality stuff! Nevertheless, many do not appreciate what God has provided. Even their own life is not cared for in accordance with His will. Therefore we see people whose lives have lost their luster and become corrupted. Still, hope is not completely lost. Just as some of those old cars have been rescued from the junk heap, cleaned up, pieced together, and put back on the road, God has provided the means for such be done with lives that should be seen as being of more value than an automobile.

Throughout the ages God has continued to be in the RESTORATION business. Lives that others might have given up on as only worthy of being junked, He has brought back to life. Jesus was going about that very business when He was accused of being a friend of tax collectors and sinners. ( Matthew 11:19; also note 9:10-12)

The image God created us to possess gets marred by neglect or choices we have made. However, God has graciously provided the means of bringing marvelous transformation to our lives in order to RESTORE that image and make it shine again. (note 2 Corinthians 3:18)

The reality of an auto body is that it will not last forever. God did not create the human body to last forever either. Praise God we will some day be provided a new one. ( 1 Corinthians 15:51-53) However, note the following encouragement as we continue to live day by day.

Paul stated…
“So we do not lose heart. Though our outer nature is wasting away, OUR INNER NATURE IS BEING RENEWED DAY BY DAY.” ( 2 Corinthians 4:16 ESV)

Taking care of this body while we have it is a good thing. After all, it is a temple of the Holy Spirit. ( 1 Corinthians 6:19) When we became Christians we put on a “NEW SELF, which is being RENEWED in knowledge after THE IMAGE OF ITS CREATOR.” ( Colossians 3:10) Rather than “Ford” may it be “LORD” that is displayed on our life’s shiny front!

Have a great day LIVING LIFE DRIVEN TO PLEASE OUR MAKER!
Carl
