Filed Away!

Albert Einstein is quoted as saying, “If a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind, of what then is an empty desk?” [source” bulletin clipping] Perhaps an implication to think about! When I visit people who are getting up there in years and they comment on their difficulty of remembering things, I often remark this difficulty is only because of how much they have filed away in their MIND over all the years they have lived. Just like a full file cabinet, it takes a while to finger through the files to find the information for which one is searching.

Perhaps our thoughts sometimes get a bit jumbled. As each day passes there are new experiences and bits of information that accumulate. Still, we should recognize what a marvelous creation of God the brain is; transferring signals throughout the body in microseconds and having a capacity for storing a great deal of information. We may even at times be amazed at how quickly some of that information is retrieved. However, we should be concerned with what we are filing away in our MIND. It needs to be filled with something (and we are doing so), but if we are cluttering it up with the wrong stuff our life is going to get bogged down and become misdirected!

A psalmist declared…
“I HAVE STORED UP YOUR WORD IN MY HEART, THAT I MIGHT NOT SIN AGAINST YOU” ( Psalm 119:11)

Obviously the psalmist understood that what was “STORED UP” within would have a direct impact on the actions of his life. The STORING UP to which he referred is filing that needs to be done on a daily basis. Such regularity will enhance our ability to retrieve the information as it is most needed.

Paul urged…
“Finally, brothers, whatever is TRUE, whatever is HONORABLE, whatever is JUST, whatever is PURE, whatever is LOVELY, whatever is COMMENDABLE, if there is any EXCELLENCE, if there is anything WORTHY OF PRAISE, THINK ABOUT THESE THINGS.” ( Philippians 4:8 ESV)

Are such “file folders” present and being filled in our MIND? Whatever it is we are drawing in and STORING AWAY is what we will unsurprisingly find ourselves drawing from. May we continue to seek the guidance of God to guard against clutter and bring Divine order to our life.

Have a great day MAINTAINING GOD’S WILL IN THE TOP DRAWER!
Carl
