What A Name!
Yesterday morning -- in connection with our focus on the Lord’s Supper -- we sang, “Jesus, Name Above All Names.” The words to this short, but very meaningful song (written by Naida Hearn, © 1974) are “Jesus, name above all names: Beautiful Savior, glorious Lord, Emmanuel, God is with us, Blessed Redeemer, Living Word.”
This short song contains a fairly comprehensive Bible study regarding the great significance of Jesus. Jesus! ( Matthew 1:21) Savior! ( Luke 2:11) Lord! ( Luke 2:11; Matthew 7:21-22) Emmanuel! ( Matthew 1:23) Redeemer! ( Titus 2:13-14) Living Word! ( John 1:1-2,14) Reading each of those passages we should readily acknowledge how the above references to Jesus are not the mere ideas of men. They were declared by God’s angelic messengers, stated by the Lord Himself, and revealed through the inspired Scriptures. There is none other like Him; none other who bears all of these designations. To hear the Name of Jesus should cause us to think of these and more. Is it acknowledged by all? No! Should it be! Yes, because there is “NO OTHER NAME UNDER HEAVEN” by which we can be saved! ( Acts 4:12) Therefore Jesus is to be viewed ABOVE ALL!
Writing to the church at Philippi, Paul noted…
“(9) Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him THE NAME THAT IS ABOVE EVERY NAME, (10) so that AT THE NAME OF JESUS EVERY KNEE SHOULD BOW, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, (11) and EVERY TONGUE CONFESS THAT JESUS CHRIST IS LORD, to the glory of God the Father.” ( Philippians 2:9-11 ESV)
There is no realm where the rightful acknowledgement of the Lordship of Jesus is not to be made. “JESUS, NAME ABOVE ALL NAMES.” Yes, it is a short song, but oh, how deeply significant it should be to us. That significance of Jesus goes way beyond the story of an infant placed in a manger after His birth. This Jesus is our only hope of salvation, to be the authority over our life, be recognized for His Divine essence, as our purchaser and pardoner before the Father, and the supreme example of how we can live pleasing to God even while in the flesh. May those around us be able to clearly see the EXALTED JESUS reflected in the manner in which we live our daily life that they too may come to understand how significant He should be to them as well!
Have a great day LIVING UNDER JESUS CHRIST ABOVE ALL!
