Transfer!

Transfers. Life is filled with them. We transfer things from one place to another. Money is transferred from one account to another. Students transfer from one school to another. People transfer within a company from one office location to another. And the list goes on. Transfers may be put in for or could be decided upon by others with no choice about it. Sometimes transfers are met with some apprehension due to moving from the known to the not so familiar. There can also be a sense of excitement realizing the opportunity for a new beginning and perhaps even greater possibilities for advancement.

Writing to the church at Colossae, Paul noted a transfer they (and we as Christians) have received. We read…

“(11) May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy, (12) giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. (13) He HAS DELIVERED US FROM THE DOMAIN OF DARKNESS AND TRANSFERRED US TO THE KINGDOM OF HIS BELOVED SON, (14) in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” ( Colossians 1:11-14 ESV)

The Greek word translated “transferred” is “metestesen”, from “methistemi”, meaning “to transpose, transfer, remove from one place to another.” [Strong’s concordance] It is a word that has also been used to describe those having been deported from one country to another. According to W.E. Vine’s Dictionary of N.T. words, “meta” implies “change” and “histemi” is “to cause to stand.” Because of Christ OUR STANDING HAS CHANGED! We weren’t just released from the domain of darkness to be left wandering, but have been moved into a new realm; presently standing in our Lord’s glorious kingdom where we can dwell in the brilliant light of His love and truth.

May our daily life reflect our understanding of the “new land” we are citizens of and the great Ruler we are blessed to STAND UNDER. Praise God for such a wonderful rescue that has enabled us to STAND ENLIGHTENED AND SECURE in Christ.

Have a great day PRAISING GOD FOR SUCH A GRACIOUS PROMOTION!
Carl
