Oh Where Oh Where!

How quick the year 2007 seems to have passed by. However, that is what time does; it continues to move by second by second, hour by hour, day by day, etc., and must be used while we have it because time cannot be recycled. We may look back with frustration or sadness at opportunities missed and may rejoice over fruitful labors in which involvement was shared. Both should serve as reminders and encouragers as we look toward a New Year that God may or may not choose to provide.

James exhorted…
“(13) Come now, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit’ -- (14) yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. (15) Instead you ought to say, ‘IF THE LORD WILLS, WE WILL LIVE AND DO THIS OR THAT.’ (16) As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. (17) So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.” ( James 4:13-17 ESV)

The reality of the shortness and uncertainty relating to life in this realm ought to cause us to give serious consideration with regard to our priorities and the opportunities of today and whatever tomorrows God will provide. Perhaps a prayer to begin each new day 2008 may offer might be, “Lord, if YOU WILL to provide this new day, I WILL accept it and use it for YOUR WILL to be done here on earth as it is in Heaven.”

May our activities and labors of each day bring glory and honor to the Lord Who has sought us, bought us, and made us His Own as we live with a life perspective that declares “TO LIVE IS CHRIST, AND TO DIE IS GAIN.” ( Philippians 1:21 ESV)
