Learn From History!
When God is forgotten or no knowledge of Him is retained, what is bound to happen? Is it any surprise when there is chaos, selfishness, and a lack of peace? Is this something we are learning?
In Hosea we read…
“(1) Hear the word of the LORD, O children of Israel, for the LORD has a controversy with the inhabitants of the land. There is no faithfulness or steadfast love, and NO KNOWLEDGE OF GOD IN THE LAND; (2) there is swearing, lying, murder, stealing, and committing adultery; they break all bounds, and bloodshed follows bloodshed.” ( Hosea 4:1-2 ESV)
This charge was against Israel. These were people who had a rich history of God’s deliverance and provision. They were without excuse for not knowing God. What then was the moral climate in which they lived? There was swearing, lying, murder, stealing, and unfaithfulness to the covenant of marriage. In other words talk was not what it should have been, TRUTH was set aside, human life was not valued, personal property was not respected, and the strength of the family was being undermined. Does that sound anything like what is presently going on in the world?
In our country today there continues to be a concerted effort by some to eliminate every reference to God in public places. In the wake of this should there be any wonder why things are going the way they are? There is even a denial of Biblical principles and the acknowledgement of God’s wisdom as having been part of the foundation for the establishment of governing guidelines. Those who change history naturally won’t learn from history and are therefore doomed and doom others to make the same mistakes again.
Consider the following observation: “That men do not learn very much from the lessons of history is the most important of all the lessons of history.” (Aldous Huxley, “Collected Essays, 1959) [source: A Treasury of Business Quotations”, p.91, compiled by Michael C. Thomsett, © 1990]
Certainly that is an important lesson to not be overlooked! Changing or denying TRUTH will never move us forward. Instead it leaves us to make the same mistakes and have to rediscover the TRUTH all over again. And it doesn’t have to be that way! Life is too short to repeat the mistakes of the past. Let us understand our life can only be properly navigated when we are using the right moral compass. May the Scriptures remain our life manual with God’s Will being our TRUE north!
Have a great day KNOWING A BRIGHTER FUTURE COMES GOD’S WAY!
