A Good Read!
It is possible for someone to know a lot of facts while really knowing nothing; at least of paramount significance. Being able to recite a lot of trivia or knowing a little bit about a lot of things may impress some, but how much effort is being put into gaining the knowledge that really counts? There are millions of books one could choose from to read today. With the internet there is also an endless array of information available for perusal. Have you read some good stuff lately? Did it ENRICH your mind? Was it a focus worth TREASURING?
It has been suggest that we are what we read and it is true that what we focus on most is generally what we act upon! Is that not good reason to consider carefully what we spend the most time filling our mind?
Recently reading through Colossians the following passage caught my attention because of the terms of value used by Paul.
“(1) For I want you to know how great a struggle I have for you and for those at Laodicea and for all who have not seen me face to face, (2) that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the RICHES OF FULL ASSURANCE OF UNDERSTANDING AND the KNOWLEDGE of God’s mystery, which is Christ, (3) in whom are hidden all the TREASURES OF WISDOM AND KNOWLEDGE.” ( Colossians 2:1-3 ESV)
Are we living as paupers when we really ought to be living as kings because of what we know of the King of kings, Jesus Christ? It is a continual focus on our knowledge of Jesus that makes for a truly good read. It is in Him we find not just assurance or even full assurance, but the “RICHES of full assurance” as our knowledge of and focus on Him aids us in developing the ability to discern what is best and the wisdom to apply that to our daily life.
If it be true that we become what we read, let us keep reading the life of Jesus! It is a safeguard for us so that we are not led astray by other ideologies. (note vs. 4) If we truly want to be rich may we fill our mind’s vault with the TREASURES of the KNOWLEDGE of Jesus!
Have a great day APPLYING CHRIST KNOWLEDGE TO LIFE!
