When In Rome....
Have you ever heard the following expression?
“When in Rome, do as the Romans do.”
Does where you are make a difference as to the code of ethics you will follow? Numerous times I have heard people offer -- as a defense for being allowed to be involved in things that were once considered immoral -- statements such as “This is America” or “This is the 80’s” or “This is the 90’s.” Are we now hearing, “This is the twenty-first century!”?
However, God -- the author of life -- has a code of ethics that still stands. While the world’s ways often bring destruction to life and family and country, God’s ways still prove right in bringing restoration and life.
David wrote:
“Your statutes have been my songs IN THE HOUSE OF MY SOJOURNING.” ( Psalm 119:54 ESV)
The New International Version reads, “…WHEREVER I LODGE.”
A popular expression today is “WWJD?” (What Would Jesus Do?). This is always a good question to ask. We might say then, “When in Rome, DO WHAT JESUS WOULD DO!” “When in America, DO WHAT JESUS WOULD DO!” “When in school, DO WHAT JESUS WOULD DO!” “When in _____, DO WHAT JESUS WOULD DO!” This will provide the constant, the stability, the consistency, that we need in life and that the world needs to see in us as followers of God’s Will.
Have a great day DOING WHAT JESUS WOULD DO!
Carl
