Well Rooted!

Have you ever tried to pull up something that was well rooted? Even though the ground was dug around it and the roots were chopped at, it still would NOT BUDGE. There have been times when I have pulled and pulled to have the plant finally either break or give way and I found myself falling backwards to the ground. Roots can be tough. They can be stubborn. To find them as such should remind us they are doing what there were intended to do; keep the plant established in the ground. Some plants are so well rooted that even though we might think the plant has been pulled up, small roots still remaining in the ground may begin to sprout again. Such is the case with an apple tree I cut down in our backyard several years ago. When I am mowing the lawn in that area I am still cutting off small tree sprouts trying to grow.

Solomon encouraged…
“No one is established by wickedness, but THE ROOT OF THE RIGHTEOUS WILL NEVER BE MOVED.” ( Proverbs 12:3 ESV)

The root of the righteous. The life of one firmly established in righteousness -- the right things associated with God and godly living -- has a root going deep in the life enabling to stand IMMOVABLE against the forces of this world. Righteousness cannot be merely a surface thing. If we are merely acting the role we will be easily moved! It is through allowing righteousness to be deeply rooted in our life that we can remain UNMOVED from the Way and Will of God.

Paul encouraged those at Corinth…
“Therefore, my beloved brothers, BE STEADFAST, IMMOVABLE, ALWAYS ABOUNDING IN THE WORK OF THE LORD, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.” ( 1 Corinthians 15:58 ESV)

Steadfast! IMMOVABLE! Abounding in the Lord’s work! These are all signs of a well rooted life. Rooted in righteousness will not only make us IMMOVABLE, but will also provide the necessary nourishment to keep from withering and remain fruitful. (note Psalm 1:1-3 and Jeremiah 17:7-8) May we -- being rooted in the righteousness of God -- continue to grow strong as fruit to the glory of God is produced in our life.

Have a great day AS A FIRMLY ESTABLISHED PLANT OF GOD!
Carl
