To The Extent Able!
We often recognize our limitations in how much help we are able to offer others. No more can be given than that for which we have either the energy or resources. Still, we can feel good when we know we have helped to the best of our ABILITY. When Paul encouraged the Corinthians to follow through with their willingness to help others through their giving he noted the expectation as being in accordance with what they had, not with what they did not have. ( 2 Corinthians 8:12) Perhaps some of the greatest frustration comes when our ABILITY to help is limited by another’s unwillingness to accept the help that is needed.
What ought to encourage us the most is to recognize our connection to the One Who is not limited in what He can offer. There are many passages of Scripture which should fill us with so much hope that the joy and praise just naturally exude from our life. Reading in the book of Hebrews yesterday morning I stopped to mediate on one of those passages. God is not a tease! He doesn’t dangle hope before us to only yank it away. God’s promises can be trusted and His “lesser” blessings (of which we should still be truly thankful) are to remind us that His greater blessings are an assurance as well. (i.e. 2 Corinthians 9:10-11)
In referring to our Lord’s permanent priesthood, the Hebrew writer encouraged…
“Consequently, HE IS ABLE TO SAVE TO THE UTTERMOST those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.” ( Hebrews 7:25 ESV)
Not “might” be able to save! Not “hoping” it will some how work out! Rather, He is ABLE to save to the UTTERMOST! The Greek in this passage is “panteles dunatai”. The word “dunatai” is from “dumamai” which refers to “being able” or “to have power”. The word “panteles” is defined as “COMPLETELY”, “PERFECTLY”, and “ABSOLUTELY”. Aren’t those wonderful words to associate with the promise of salvation? Through the gift of Jesus on the cross, God has made it possible to offer COMPLETE and ABSOLUTE salvation to us.
How frustrated God must be when the salvation He has the ABILITY to offer in such a final and uttermost manner is met by an unwillingness to accept it on His terms or at all! Why refuse that for which God has the ABSOLUTE ABILITY to bring about? Why question that which He has the PERFECT POWER to provide? Why turn away from that which God has already accomplished in Christ that is COMPLETELY CAPABLE of saving our soul? Let us continually draw near to God, walking on in Christ, so that the ultimate power of this promise will be ours!
Have a great day KNOWING THE SOUL’S SALVATION OUR SAVIOR SECURED!
