The Cash In Our Hand!

Perhaps living in the age of plastic (the use of credit cards) the handling of cash has become a novelty to some. However, cash is still spendable without having to produce ID, punch in pin (personal identification number) codes or have a check verification done. When cash is what we spend we know IT IS WHAT WE HAVE and therefore do not have to fear a bank overdraft, a credit card refusal, or interest on the balance. To have a handful of cash we might be tempted to go on a spending spree, but when it comes down to our last few dollars, don’t we tend to give how they will be spent more careful and serious consideration?

Do we consider the SPENDING OF TIME in a similar way or is much of it wasted as if we had all the time in the world? The statement has been made: “Yesterday is a canceled check. Tomorrow is a promissory note. Today is the only cash you have -- spend it wisely.” [original source unknown]

Remember James warning…
“(13) Come now, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit’ -- (14) yet YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT TOMORROW WILL BRING. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. (15) Instead you ought to say, ‘If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.’” ( James 4:13-15 ESV)

Though plans may be made with the Lord’s Will in mind, the TIME OF THE PRESENT is all that is within our hands to use. That time can slip away and pass so quickly. How are we spending it?

In his letters to both the church at Ephesus and at Colossae, Paul exhorted…

“(15) Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, (16) MAKING THE BEST USE OF THE TIME, because the days are evil.” ( Ephesians 5:15-16 ESV)

“(5) Conduct yourselves wisely toward outsiders, MAKING THE BEST USE OF THE TIME.” ( Colossians 4:5 ESV)

How we personally spend THE TIME WE HAVE and the manner in which it is spent around or on behalf of others, needs to be given serious consideration. Once it is spent it is gone. It cannot be stockpiled. It can’t be hoarded away. Time must be used in the present, remembering that what is at hand is all we have to use with certainty. May we continually use it very wisely.

Have a great day REVEALING AN APPRECIATION FOR TIME'S TRUE VALUE!
