Life Vision!

Having a dream. Something for which to aim. A vision of what one wishes to accomplish or where one wants to ultimately be. Such is a powerful aid in maintaining a will to press on even in the midst of adversity or situations that may not make sense to us at the moment. Do we have a dream for life? Are there others with whom we associate who share the same vision? Vision shared by others can also be a powerful thing. However, more important than any of this is understanding WHOSE VISION it is we possess? Is it our own? What is it’s source of origin?

Solomon stated…
“Where there is NO PROPHETIC VISION THE PEOPLE CAST OFF RESTRAINT, but blessed is he who keeps the law.” ( Proverbs 29:18 ESV)

The New Living Translation reads…
“WHEN PEOPLE DO NOT ACCEPT DIVINE GUIDANCE, THEY RUN WILD. But whoever obeys the law is happy.” ( Proverbs 29:19 NLT, © 1997, Tyndale House)

Do we hold a vision for life that is based upon GOD’S WILL or merely our own? Do we set plans into motion expecting God to place His stamp of approval on them, or do we begin with what He has revealed about Himself and His purposes for life? Is HIS WILL truly the foundation on which rests our life vision?

When we look at the life and teachings of Jesus, what glimpses do we receive that would help us in walking in His steps? What vision did our Lord possess? While speaking to some who thought they were serving God, but actually had a vision far different than what God had in mind ( John 5:18), Jesus made two statements with regard to His vision that we would do well to consider in relation to our own life. I would even encourage you to take the time to read the whole fifth chapter of John, but among the statements made by Jesus on this occasion note the following two verses.

“(19) So Jesus said to them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, THE SON CAN DO NOTHING OF HIS OWN ACCORD, BUT ONLY WHAT HE SEES THE FATHER DOING. FOR WHATEVER THE FATHER DOES, THAT THE SON DOES LIKEWISE.” ( John 5:19 ESV)

And…
“(30) ‘I CAN DO NOTHING ON MY OWN. As I hear, I judge, and my judgment is just, because I SEEK NOT MY OWN WILL BUT THE WILL OF HIM WHO SENT ME.’” ( John 5:30 ESV)

The vision of Jesus was the VISION OF THE FATHER. It was that same vision our Lord sought to instill in the twelve who followed Him. Just as the calling of the disciples brought about a dynamic change in their vision for life (i.e. from fishermen to fishers-of-men and from tax-collecting to helping others recognize true riches) has there been a change in our vision for life having accepted the calling of God in dying to self to live for Him?

It is possible for us to develop a vision of our own and even accomplish many good works while at the same time missing the mark with God. (note ( Matthew 7:21-23) We need to continue to study and seek out what God has revealed as HIS WILL for all mankind. If we can come to know and share HIS VISION we will be involved in works that reach out to others with their soul’s salvation in mind. May we, like our Lord, do nothing of our own accord, but rather seek to fulfill the WILL OF GOD instead. Remembering it is His desire that none should perish, but that all would come to repentance ( 2 Peter 3:9), let us share that dream as we live to serve HIS PURPOSES!

Have a great day SEEING LIFE THROUGH THE EYES AND HEART OF GOD!
