A Land Of Plenty!

A land of plenty! Is that where we want to live? Is that where we do? Reading through Proverbs yesterday morning I was struck by the following verse.

“Whoever works his land will have PLENTY OF BREAD, but he who follows worthless pursuits will have PLENTY OF POVERTY.” ( Proverbs 28:19 ESV)

This passage caused me to think how there is a real sense in which everyone lives in a land of plenty! The issue is “plenty” of what? As we look around at the world in which we live we can find those with plenty of wealth. Along with that wealth (which others might covet) often comes plenty of ulcers from trying to retain it. There is also plenty of poverty. We may see plenty of frowns due to burdens and sorrows. We may see plenty of smiles due to joy being experienced and hope that is held. We may see plenty of righteousness and plenty of injustice. And the list goes on. We are surrounded by plenty of lots of things either good or bad, positive or negative, marvelous or mournful, etc. It is important to therefore give serious consideration to the plenty we are pursuing and the plenty that truly holds significance for this life and the eternity to come.

Jesus said,
“(9) I AM THE DOOR. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. (10) The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I CAME THAT THEY MAY HAVE LIFE AND HAVE IT ABUNDANTLY.” ( John 10:9-10 ESV)

There is no greater door of opportunity for blessing opened for us than Jesus our Lord. How are our pursuits of life associated with Him? In Him we have the ABUNDANCE OF GRACE. ( Romans 5:17). Even in the midst of life’s challenges, in Christ we can still share in ABUNDANT COMFORT ( 2 Corinthians 1:5) and possess ABUNDANT JOY. ( 2 Corinthians 8:2) And the list goes on because through Christ we have been given the opportunity to be brought into a right relationship with the God “who is able to do FAR MORE ABUNDANTLY than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us.” ( Ephesians 3:20)

The realm of plenty! In Christ is truly found the reality of the ABUNDANCE that matters most! Let us never allow the world’s ABUNDANCE to distract us from the wealth of blessings in Christ. May we also bear in mind that there’s plenty to go around, so let’s share this blessed hope in Christ with others.

Have a great day APPRECIATING THE SUFFICIENCY OUR SAVIOR PROVIDES!
