Inspiration And Perspiration!
When I am out on my long walks, on the front of my tee shirt my perspiration often forms in the shape of a small heart. I have even had people comment that my heart was showing. How is it in life that the heart we have becomes evident in a good way?
It has been stated that success is ten percent inspiration and ninety percent perspiration, an expression attributed to the inventor Thomas Edison. The idea has also been stated as being only one percept inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration. Either way we see where the main focus rests. Perhaps we could look at WORKS OF SERVICE in the same way. We can be inspired by needs we see around us, but it is the perspiration of carrying out the works to meet them that helps others see the genuine HEART FOR SERVICE we possess. In our Lord’s going to the cross, His LABOR OF LOVE on our behalf was accompanied by intense perspiration in the garden. ( Luke 22:44) His heart of compassion for others was demonstrated again and again throughout His earthly ministry and ultimately on the cross. Do we share the same HEART FOR SERVICE? Are we eager to give of our time and PERSPIRATION on behalf of others?
Note what Paul observed among those at Thessalonica.
“(2) We give thanks to God always for all of you, constantly mentioning you in our prayers, (3) remembering before our God and Father YOUR WORK OF FAITH AND LABOR OF LOVE and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.” ( 1 Thessalonians 1:2-3 ESV)
And the Hebrew writer encouraged…
“For God is not so unjust as to overlook YOUR WORK AND THE LOVE that you SHOWED for his sake IN SERVING THE SAINTS, as you still do.” ( Hebrews 6:10 ESV)
Possessing a HEART FOR SERVICE can serve to inspire others toward the same as well as inspiring those helped to know LOVING CHRISTIAN SERVICE is still at work in this world. May our life be a proper mix of inspiration and perspiration for which others can be thankful and that glorifies God.
Have a great day HAVING A HEART THAT SHOWS!
Carl
