Indebted!
When someone does something for us we may feel indebted to them. That sense of indebtedness generally causes us to honor and value those individuals. We also would most likely seek to PLEASE them by the way we act toward them or the SERVICE we might offer on their behalf.
In Paul’s letter to the church at Rome he stated…
“(12) So then, brothers, WE ARE DEBTORS, NOT TO THE FLESH, to live according to the flesh. (13) For IF YOU LIVE ACCORDING TO THE FLESH YOU WILL DIE, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.” ( Romans 8:12-13 ESV)
What has “the flesh” done for us? What inclinations has it lead us toward. What feelings has it aroused? What cravings has it produced? Down what road has “the flesh” led us? Has it always been good? Is not “the flesh” that which has challenged us more than the pressures of the world around us? Do we feel a sense of indebtedness to “the flesh” or do we rather seek the guidance and power that frees us from bondage to it?
For us to PLEASE and SERVE “the flesh” will only lead to death. On the other hand, what do we have because of God through our Lord Jesus Christ?
In the previous two verses we read…
“(10) But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. (11) If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, HE WHO RAISED CHRIST JESUS FROM THE DEAD WILL ALSO GIVE LIFE TO YOUR MORTAL BODIES through his Spirit who dwells in you.” ( Romans 8:10-11 ESV)
Is this not where our sense of indebtedness should arise? Owing our life now and our eternal salvation to what Christ has provided, do we feel a sense of obligation to PLEASE and SERVE HIM? If we truly understand the bondage of the flesh and the blessing of freedom from it, the degree of indebtedness to Christ ought to be greatly felt. May we therefore in joyful gratitude seek to PLEASE and SERVE Him Who has removed our debt of sin by paying the price through His blood on the cross. It is truly all to Him that we owe!
Have a great day PLEASED TO SERVE THE LORD OF LIFE!
