A Prayer For Each Day!
As Paul wrote to the church at Thessalonica, he exhorted them to “pray without ceasing”. ( 1 Thessalonians 5:17 ESV) What Paul encouraged was a spirit of prayer always accompanying them through life. What a wonderful blessing we have that as we go through all the activities of each day, we can do so knowing God is fully aware of what is going on in our life and that we can talk to Him anytime and anywhere. This can be done either audibly or silently. Still it is nice to also have established times for purposeful prayer besides the offering of thanks at meal times. Several men meet with me each Friday morning for prayer and together we encourage one another and pray through the “prayer list” of our church bulletin. We have been doing this since November of 1995 and have missed very few Fridays since we began. An established time of prayer shared by my wife and I is each night before going to sleep. Prayer ought to be a very integral part of our Christian walk.
In Paul’s letter to the church at Colossae, he made a specific prayer request that I believe we would each do well to consider in our own prayers as we begin each new day.
We read…
“(2) Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. (3) At the same time, PRAY ALSO FOR US, THAT GOD MAY OPEN TO US A DOOR FOR THE WORD, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison -- (4) THAT I MAY MAKE IT CLEAR, which is how I ought to speak.” ( Colossians 4:2-4 ESV)
Prayer for OPEN DOORS; opportunities to share with others about Jesus. Though Paul was a prisoner, that did not cause him to lose his desire and hope for OPEN DOORS for sharing the Gospel. For us to begin the day with such a request of God should serve to then open our hearts and our eyes to the opportunities we will have through the encounters of the day. It may be an opportunity just to mention something about Jesus. It might be a chance to encourage or serve in the Name of Jesus. Or it may be a situation where we can connect with another in such a way that an OPEN DOOR is provided for sharing a deeper look into the truths of Jesus as Lord and Savior. Having such as the earnest prayer of our heart will ready us for the rising of such occasions through the day. May the Lord be glorified and praised in the process!
Have a great day PREPARED BY PRAYER TO CARE AND SHARE!
