Thoughtless Action!
There are times our actions get us into trouble because we have failed to first think things through. Sometimes the response, “But I didn’t think!” is met by a, “Well, maybe you should!” Mindless activity is not a good way to live life. However, could there be some proper and significant action that should take place without giving it much thought?
What about LOVE? When LOVE is genuine, how much does it have to think before acting? Consider the parent who -- without a moment’s hesitation -- steps into danger’s path in order to protect their child. Could the same kind of LOVE be evident in the actions of a husband or wife? How about a brother or sister? Then what about between brothers and sisters in Christ?
James exhorted…
“(15) If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, (16) and one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace, be warmed and filled,’ WITHOUT GIVING THEM THE THINGS NEEDED for the body, WHAT GOOD IS THAT?” ( James 2:15-16 ESV)
When the need is seen and no help is given, might we ask, “Where is the LOVE?” Genuine LOVE doesn’t have to think too long. Where LOVE exists, if what can be given is needed, it is to be given! [note also Proverbs 3:27-28 and 1 John 3:16-18] If we have to think too much about what we are giving we may need to reconsider the relationship.
Remember Paul’s exemplary attitude.
“I WILL MOST GLADLY SPEND AND BE SPENT FOR YOUR SOULS. IF I LOVE YOU MORE, AM I TO BE LOVED LESS?” ( 2 Corinthians 12:15 ESV)
It was a GODLY LOVE Paul had developed for others that prompted the giving of himself and whatever he had. It is LOVE that prompted God to provide His blessings for us. Where do we go from there?
John stated…
“WE LOVE BECAUSE HE FIRST LOVED US.” ( 1 John 4:19)
We have good reason to LOVE! Knowing how much we are loved should make it easier for us to LOVE. Does our life exhibit actions that are a natural outpouring of a genuine GODLY LOVE? May the LOVE of God continually move us into actions that glorify Him, reveal our genuine appreciation for His LOVE, and bring benefit to others. Our very actions may be the first taste some people get of what the LOVE OF GOD is all about!
Have a great day ALLOWING GOD’S LOVE TO PASS THROUGH US TO OTHERS!
Carl
