Keyholes!

Have you ever looked through a keyhole? Perhaps you have never seen the kind of keyhole that can actually be peered through unless you have been in an older house. From the inside one is able to look out and see if someone is coming. From the outside one can peer in, not able to gain a full view, but at least a partial one of who is inside or what is going on within the room.

Someone has said, “A Christian is the keyhole through which other folk see God.” [Robert E. Gibson, via bulletin clipping]

God, in all His magnificence, power, and vastness cannot be fully seen or understood. (note Romans 11:33-34, and 1 Corinthians 1:25, and Isaiah 55:8-9) There are many things about God that can be known through observing His creation. ( Romans 1:19-20) His Word also clues us in on the greatness of His Wisdom. However, as His people, the manner in which we live our lives can also offer a GLIMPSE of what He is like. Through the “keyhole” of our life what kind of information about God is being revealed?

Writing to the church at Colossae, Paul urged…
“(9) Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices (10) and have put on THE NEW SELF, which is being RENEWED IN KNOWLEDGE AFTER THE IMAGE OF ITS CREATOR.” ( Colossians 3:9-10 ESV)

The Greek word translated “image” is “eikon” and is a word that involves the two ideas of representation and manifestation. Having put on the new self in Christ our life is to be a moral representation of what God is! Is that renewed image evident as we go about our daily activities? When our life is observed are others gaining a GLIMPSE of the essence of God?

As our life helps provide a GLIMPSE of God, we need to help others then see the necessity of going beyond the “keyhole” look and going through the door ( John 10:9) to gain access to the sphere of salvation in Christ and become involved in the activities within that realm. May each day of our life be lived to direct the attention toward God.

Have a great day REALIZING HOW KEY OUR MANNER OF LIVING CAN BE TO OTHERS SEEING GOD!
