The Choice!

Life is filled with choices. We make choices every day, some of which are more significant than others. When facing choices with regard to our health, serious consideration should be given to what will enhance our life and what could become harmful to it. The choice to develop good habits with regard to eating, sleeping, exercise, etc. is important while at the same time there must be the choice to refrain from anything that would lead to the development of habits harmful to the body.

Just as this is vital concerning our physical life, it is even more so with regard to spiritual life. Unfortunately many often don’t give these choices as much consideration as they do what they will eat or even wear. When faced with life choices we should seriously consider the impact those choices will have on our spiritual well-being.

As Moses was preparing to hand over the leadership of Israel to Joshua, he pointed the people’s attention toward the blessing of continued obedience and warned them of the consequences of failing to listen to God. Moses then urged the people toward the best choice.

We read…
“(19) I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. THEREFORE CHOOSE LIFE, that you and your offspring may live, (20) loving the Lord your God, obeying his voice and holding fast to him, for HE IS YOUR LIFE and length of days, that you may dwell in the land that the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.” ( Deuteronomy 30:19-20 ESV)

“CHOOSE LIFE”! In choosing LIFE there was to be the acknowledgement that God was their LIFE! Without Him where would they have been? Still in the slavery of Egypt! God, having protected and provided for them all through their journey toward the promised land, would the choice not be an easy one? Unfortunately the history that follows reveals many choices that took the nation away from God and the LIFE they could have had.

How about us? What is our choice? Jesus referred to Himself as “the way, and the truth, and THE LIFE”! ( John 14:6) In this same chapter Jesus told His disciples, “Because I live, you also will live.” ( John 14:19b) Jesus was to be seen as their LIFE link!

Where would we be without Jesus? Still in the slavery of sin! To choose to follow Jesus is to “CHOOSE LIFE”! And every choice we make needs to be considered with that relationship and our eternal destiny in mind!

In Paul’s letter to the church at Colossae he urged…
“(2) Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. (3) For you have died, and YOUR LIFE IS HIDDEN WITH CHRIST IN GOD. (4) When CHRIST WHO IS YOUR LIFE appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.” ( Colossians 3:2-4 ESV)

“CHRIST WHO IS YOUR LIFE”! Is He? This life is filled with many distractions that force us to continually be making choices? Do we daily acknowledge how all our choices relate to the LIFE we have because of Christ and the hope we have for it eternally?

John emphatically stated…
“Whoever HAS THE SON HAS LIFE; whoever does NOT HAVE THE SON OF GOD DOES NOT HAVE LIFE.” ( 1 John 5:12 ESV)

Sounds like an easy choice, doesn’t it? Not just the best choice, but the only real choice to be made. May Jesus be the continual choice FOR LIFE!

Have a great day CHOOSING THE ONE WHO GAVE US LIFE BY GIVING HIS!
