Liability Or Asset!

Among the characteristics of our life, we may have some traits that are assets while others are liabilities. Some actions work for us and are destined to produce a good reward in return while others will work against us and ultimately bring us down. There are people who will do and say almost anything to get what they want or aid them in moving up in society. However, some of the abilities to do so may one day prove to be a liability rather than an asset. An ability some have developed will someday clearly prove to be as follows: “The Ability To Lie Is A Liability.” [source: church sign]

Consider where this ability is getting the devil. When he speaks, it is out of his own character as he is “a liar and the father of lies.” ( John 8:44 ESV) “Lienese” is his dialect as there is no truth in him. It is the language of doom for those who speak it, as the destiny of liars is declared to be a lake of fire. ( Revelation 21:8)

In this same chapter of John, Jesus stressed…
“(31) So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, ‘If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, (32) and YOU WILL KNOW THE TRUTH, AND THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE.”” ( John 8:31-32 ESV)

Life or any future hope based on lies will ultimately become a liability. It is in accepting and continuing in the TRUTH of Jesus that we find the greatest asset we could possibly possess. Denying the TRUTH does not change it, therefore we might as well accept it and live by it. Such an approach to life will ultimately work to our greatest advantage because of the supreme freedom that is ours in Christ.

Paul urged those at Colossae…
“(9) DO NOT LIE TO ONE ANOTHER, seeing that you HAVE PUT OFF THE OLD SELF with its practices (10) and HAVE PUT ON THE NEW SELF, which is BEING RENEWED IN KNOWLEDGE AFTER THE IMAGE OF ITS CREATOR.” ( Colossians 3:9-10 ESV)

Rather than adopting the devil’s dialect, let us be like God in Whom there is no lie.( Titus 1:2) It is His essence that is to become more and more evident in our life. May it be so in life and speech!
