The Future!

We may not know all that the future holds for us. However, what we do know can powerfully impact the manner in which we press on into it. What is it that provides us with the most assurance in the close relationships we have? Is it the recognition of a bond of love that can be counted on through good times as well as through the trying times? Sometimes just knowing those we love and who love us will be there with us through the uncertain periods of life can provide the courage needed to press on regardless of what might be faced.

When we recognize the great LOVE RELATIONSHIP we have with God, does that provide an immense assurance for the future even when we don’t know all the things in life we may encounter? When Paul referred to the love of Christ, he raised the question as to whether or not tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, danger, or sword could separate us from that love. ( Romans 8:35) He then went on to assert that of which he was certain.

We read…
“(37) No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. (38) FOR I AM SURE that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present NOR THINGS TO COME, nor powers, (39) nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, WILL BE ABLE TO SEPARATE US FROM THE LOVE OF GOD IN CHRIST JESUS OUR LORD.” ( Romans 8:37-39 ESV)

No wonder Paul’s life was marked by a continual willingness to press on even in the face of the unknown. (note Acts 20:22-24; 21:11-14) He trusted the Lord to stand by him and that is exactly what he experienced. ( 2 Timothy 4:17)

Let us also be encouraged that as we press on in the Will of God that not even the “things to come” can separate us from the LOVE RELATIONSHIP we have with Him through Christ. Though we may not know all the “things to come”, whatever they may be, like Paul let us trust the Lord to stand by us through them.
